Will Smith is set to produce and star in a new movie about the National Football League, sources told Variety.
The untitled drama will tell the true story of Dr. Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist who was the first to discover and publish findings of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in NFL players, and the battle he waged against the league to get them to take brain injuries seriously.
Smith will produce the film with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, through their production company Overbrook Entertainment. The script is being written by Peter Landesman, who also wrote and directed “Concussion,” another film about CTE in the NFL starring Will Smith.
