What Is The Rule 5 In Baseball?
Rule 5 of baseball is pretty simple – if you draft a player, he must stay on your team’s active roster for the entire season or be offered back to his original team.
Rule 5 in baseball is the “infield fly” rule.
The infield fly is a rule of baseball that, in certain situations, protects the batter from being thrown out on an easy pop fly to the infield. In order for the infield fly rule to come into effect, two things must happen:
1. There must be fewer than two outs in the inning, and
2. There must be runners on first and second base, or the bases must be loaded.
If those two things happen, then the batter is automatically safe on an easy pop fly to the infield, even if the ball is caught. The reason for this rule is to prevent the defense from trying to intentionally drop the ball in order to get a double play.
