Who to Start in Your Fantasy NBA League
Contents
It’s Fantasy NBA season! Here are some tips on who to start in your league.
LeBron James
LeBron James is one of the best players in the NBA and he is a great choice to start in your fantasy NBA league. LeBron is a top scorer, rebounder, and passer in the league and he will help your team win a lot of games. LeBron is also a very durable player and he rarely misses games.
Los Angeles Lakers
LeBron James is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. James played high school basketball at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, where he was highly promoted in the national media as a future NBA superstar. A prep-to-pro, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 as the first overall draft pick. Named the 2003–04 NBA Rookie of the Year, he quickly emerged as one of the league’s premier players; he was named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2009 and 2010. James has been selected to the All-NBA First Team twelve times and to the All-Defensive First Team five times. He won his first NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012, defeating Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He went on to win two more titles with Miami along with NBA Finals MVP awards in 2012 and 2013.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavs compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland.
The Cavaliers name was chosen by owner Ted Stepien in 1971. The franchise started its history losing its first 15 games under head coach Bill Fitch. It managed to win its first game ever against rival (and eventual 1972 NBA Finals opponent) the Milwaukee Bucks, led by future Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then known as Lew Alcindor). The team finished its inaugural season with a 35–47 record, and 22 wins is still the franchise record for a losing season. They won only 19 games in their second season, which is currently the second worst record in NBA history for a team’s second season coming behind only the 1999 Los Angeles Clippers who won just 17 games. In 1975–76, after winning just 11 games in their previous two seasons combined, veteran forward Austin Carr was drafted number one overall by Stepien’s group of owners and new head coach Tom Nissalke led the Cavs back into playoff contention with a 41–41 record. Unfortunately they would lose to eventual champion Boston Celtics in six games during Round One of the Eastern Conference Playoffs that year despite Carr averaging 25 points per game during those playoffs.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a fantasy basketball stud. If you are looking for a player who will stuff the stat sheet, he is your guy. He averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game last season and is only getting better.
Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo (-115) is the prohibitive favorite to repeat as MVP, but he has some stiff competition this season. The Greek Freak averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.3 blocks last season and will once again be the engine that makes the Bucks go. He’s a top-five fantasy player in all formats and is worth the investment as the No. 1 pick in most drafts.
Anthony Davis
If you’re looking for a big man who can stuff the stat sheet, look no further than Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans. Davis is averaging 27.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game. He’s also shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the free throw line. In other words, he’s a fantasy stud.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular teams in the NBA, and it’s no surprise that their players are some of the most popular in fantasy basketball. Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league, and he’s a must-start in any fantasy basketball league.
Davis is averaging 28.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.8 steals per game this season, and he’s shooting 50.3% from the field and 80.5% from the free throw line. He’s been especially good lately, averaging 34.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game in his last five games.
There’s really no reason to not start Davis every week, as he’s one of the best players in the league and he has a great chance to put up big numbers every night. If you have him on your team, make sure you have him in your lineup!
Kawhi Leonard
Kawhi Leonard is one of the best players in the NBA and is a great option to start your fantasy NBA league with. He is a forward for the Toronto Raptors and is a great scorer and rebounder. Kawhi Leonard is also a great defender and can help you win a lot of games.
Los Angeles Clippers
Kawhi Leonard is one of the top players in the NBA and a unanimous first-team All-NBA selection. He is a two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and has won an NBA championship and Finals MVP. Leonard was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019, where he currently plays alongside fellow All-Star Paul George.
James Harden
James Harden is one of the most explosive scorers in the NBA. He’s capable of putting up big numbers on any given night, and he’s got a great supporting cast around him in Houston. If you’re looking for a player who can fill up the stat sheet, Harden is your guy.
Houston Rockets
James Harden is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Arizona State, where he was named a consensus All-American and Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2009. Harden was selected with the third overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder.[1] In 2012, he was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the Thunder and helped the team reach the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat in five games.
The following year, he was traded to Houston. During his first season with the Rockets in 2012–13, he became only the fifth player in NBA history to average at least 25 points per game and lead his team in assists per game.[2] In 2015–16, Harden was awarded his first All-Star Game start and led Houston to 55 wins. He also helped improve his efficiency as a scorer; his points total improved from 2,513 points in 2014–15 to 2,936 points in 2015–16 while taking almost 200 fewer shots. He continued this trend into 2016–17 by becoming only the second player ever after Michael Jordan to average at least 29 points while shooting better than 44 percent from three-point range and dishing out more than 7 assists per game over an entire season.
