Why I stopped playing basketball
I used to play basketball all the time when I was younger. I was pretty good, too. I loved the feeling of the ball bouncing off the hardwood and the satisfaction of sinking a shot. But I stopped playing for a number of reasons.
For one, I got busy with other things as I got older. School, work, and other extracurricular activities took up more and more of my time. And as I got busier, it became harder and harder to find time to play.
Another reason I stopped playing is that I started to develop other interests. I discovered new hobbies and activities that I enjoyed more than basketball. And as my interests changed, so did my priorities. Basketball just wasn’t a priority for me anymore.
Finally, my friends who used to play with me stopped playing as well. We all went our separate ways and pursued different interests. And without them, there was no one to play with.
These are the main reasons why I stopped playing basketball It was a combination of getting busy, developing new interests, and losing touch with old friends.
How I felt when I stopped playing
It’s been almost two years since I last played basketball. I was never very good, but I loved playing and being a part of a team. When I had to stop due to an injury, I thought I would miss it more than I actually do.
Now, don’t get me wrong – I still love the sport. Watching the NBA is one of my favorite pastimes. But there’s something about actually playing that I don’t miss as much as I thought I would.
Maybe it’s because playing always brought out the competitor in me, and not in a good way. I was always too hard on myself, always trying to be perfect. If I missed a shot, or made a bad pass, I would get so frustrated with myself. It was like I was never good enough.
Not playing has helped me to relax and enjoy the game more. Now, when I watch Lebron James miss a shot, or Russell Westbrook turn the ball over, I don’t get upset. Instead, I can appreciate their greatness even more because I know how difficult the game is.
So while I may never play basketball again, that’s OK. Because in some ways, not playing has made me appreciate the sport even more.
How I felt when I started playing again
I hadn’t played basketball in a while, so I was a little rusty when I started playing again. I felt out of breath and my muscles were sore, but it was a good feeling. I was happy to be playing again and getting back into shape.

The same principles apply: you still need to be quick on your feet, have good hand-eye coordination and know how to think two steps ahead of your opponents. Even though my body isn’t what it used to be, I’m still confident that I can compete with anyone on the court.

I haven’t played basketball in a while and there are a few things I need to work on before I’ll be able to play at the level I want to. I need to work on my stamina, my shooting, and my ball-handling.

When I do, all of those same thoughts still go through my head. And even though basketball isn’t a huge part of my life anymore, it’s still something that brings me a lot of joy.
