I was born on October 20th, 1999 in Baton Rouge Louisiana. My real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden but I go by NBA Youngboy I’m named after my grandfather, who was a big Basketball Fan Growing up, we didn’t have much money; my mom struggled to make ends meet while raising three kids on her own. We lived in some tough neighborhoods and I saw a lot of violence growing up. When I was 8 years old, my mom was shot in the head during a drive-by shooting – she survived but it took a long time for her to recover physically and emotionally from the incident.
When I was 10 years old my dad was incarcerated; he’s been in and out of prison ever since. He’s still a big part of my life though; we talk often and he gives me a lot of advice. I also have two brothers – one older and one younger – who I’m very close to. They’ve both been huge influences on me; we grew up listening to rap music together and they were always pushing me to pursue my dreams.

Music

I started making music when I was 14 years old as a way to express myself and tell my story. Music has always been therapeutic for me; it’s how I deal with my emotions and process what’s going on in my life. When I make music, I pour all of myself into it – it’s like therapy for me. It wasn’t always easy though; early on in my career I was facing some legal troubles that threatened to derail everything. But thankfully I was able to turn things around and focus on my music full-time.

over the past few years, my career has blown up – but it hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2017, I was shot 9 times during an attempted robbery; miraculously, I survived but it was a close call. The incident really shook me up; it made me realize how quickly everything can be taken away from you. Since then, I’ve been through ups and downs – but overall things have been going great for me professionally personally . recently welcomed a baby daughter into the world , which has been both amazing tough . Being a father is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me , but it’s also brought new challenges . It’s changed my perspective on life completely ; now more than ever ,I want to be around for my daughter and ensure that she has everything she needs .

This past year has been tough for all of us – but I’m hopeful for the future . 2020 has been challenging in so many ways , But despite Everything ,I’m grateful for all that I have . My daughter is healthy ,I’m surrounded by great people ,and My career is doing better than ever .
