2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Coin Now Available

The United States Mint has released the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin. This beautiful silver coin is now available for purchase.

Introduction

The 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin is now available for purchase from the United States Mint. This silver dollar coin celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame and recognizes the contributions of baseball’s greatest players managers and umpires. Over twenty thousand living members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since it was established in 1939. The coin program will support the operations of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

The obverse (heads side) design features a bas-relief image of a glove and a baseball on a diamond beneath the inscription “75 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE,” “national baseball Hall of Fame ” and “2014.” The initials “BM” for designer Brenda Putnam are included in the design. Mr. Charles Larmouth created the reverse (tails side) design, which features a well-worn baseball similar to those used by Major League players. Inscriptions on this side include “United States OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

The United States Mint began accepting orders for the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin on March 27, 2014. Struck in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame the coin recognizes the contributions made by players, coaches, and umpires who have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame

The surcharge from the sale of each coin will be paid to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum to support its education programs.

How to Get the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Coin

The 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin is now available from the United States Mint. This $5 gold coin, minted in proof and uncirculated quality, marks the 75th anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame It is the first-ever concave coin produced by the Mint and features a hologram image of a baseball on the reverse (tails side) that changes to “75” when viewed from different angles. The coin’s entire mintage is limited to 70,000 pieces in Proof and 40,000 in Uncirculated quality.

Prices for the coin will be established by subtracting the value of gold from the coin’s face value ($35 per troy ounce on January 31, 2014). For example, if gold is trading at $1,250 per troy ounce when an order is placed, each Proof $5 Gold Coin would be priced at $534.38 (or $10 less for orders containing a total of 20 coins or more). These prices are subject to change based on market conditions.

The Design of the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Coin

The United States Mint has released the design of the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin. The obverse (heads side) of the coin features a baseball glove in homage to the sport, with the words “2014 Baseball Hall of Fame” represented by the stitching on the glove. The reverse (tails side) of the coin features a Baseball Set against a cross-section of a baseball diamond The inscription “United States of America” and “E Pluribus Unum” are displayed on the outside edge of the coin as well.

The obverse (heads side) of each coin features a left-profile portrait of Abraham Lincoln designed by Victor David Brenner. Theprescription on this face reads “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” and the date “2014.” Brenner’s initials also appear on this face in the field just below Lincoln’s collar.

The Five Dollar Gold Coin
TheWhere appropriate, each player’s individual number is shown above his image on the coin reverse (tails side). The five dollar gold coin is struck in .2419 fine gold and has a diameter of 0.850 inches (21.59 mm) and a weight of 8.359 grams. A maximum age limit of 50,000 has been set for this coin, and it will be available for purchase from the Mint beginning on March 27, 2014, at noon EDT. There is a household order limit of 10 coins total (across all products) and orders will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. EDT on June 2, 2014

The One Dollar Silver Coin
Then One Dollar Silver Coin bears the likeness of Yogi Berra on its reverse (tails side), along with his signature and individual number “8.” Inscriptions are “United States OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” his position “CATCHER,” “Yogi Berra ” and “1925-2015.” This portrait was designed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphilland sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna. The One Dollar Silver Coin is composed of .7734 ozt pure silver and has a diameter of 1.500 inches (38.10 mm) and weighs 26.730 grams..This coin has a maximum mintage limit of 400,000 pieces across proof and uncirculated versions combined

The Clad Half Dollar Coin

The Clad Half Dollar Coin bears Opening Day lineup cards from Yogi Berra’s storied career as manager of boththe New York Yankees (1984 World Champions) and New York Mets(1986 National League Champions). The Induction Process for the Baseball Hall of Fame

In order to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame a player must first be nominated by a Board of Directors made up of former players, historians, and media personnel. A nominations committee then reviews the candidate’s qualifications and decides whether or not to place him on the ballot. If a candidate receives at least 75% of the vote, he is inducted into the Hall of Fame
