He spent 2014 with the Visalia Rawhide of the Class A-Advanced California League, batting .288/.358/.423 with seven Home Runs and 64 RBIs in 133 games.

The Diamondbacks traded Velazquez to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015 as part of a three-team trade that also involved Brad Boxberger going to Arizona from Tampa Bay and Jeremy Hellickson going from Arizona to Philadelphia.

He was assigned to the Montgomery Biscuits of the Class AA Southern League, where he hit .244/.321/.324 with two home runs and 43 RBIs in 132 games. He began 2016 back with Montgomery, but was promoted to the Durham Bulls of the Class AAA National League during the season. In between Montgomery and Durham, he hit .270/.332/.383 with three home runs and 49 RBIs in 122 games.

The Rays added Velazquez to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season to protect him from being eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft. He began 2017 back with Durham.
