If you’re new to baseball, or if you’re just looking for a refresher, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the basics of baseball that you need to know:
The objective of baseball is simple: score more runs than your opponent. Runs are scored by Hitting the ball and then safely making it around the bases before the defense can throw you out. There are four bases arranged in a diamond shape, and each team has nine players who take turns batting and playing in the field.
The game is divided into innings, with each team getting three outs per inning. An out is when a batter is unable to reach first base safely, when a baserunner is forced out by the defense, or when there are three strikes on a batter. Strikes occur when the batter swings at a pitch and misses, or when the pitch hits them within the strike zone (a zone outlined by an umpire). balls occur when the pitcher throws balls that are not hit by the batter or not caught within the strike zone by the catcher. After four balls, the batter automatically gets to first base.
