The Infield
The Moravian College baseball team has several Key Players in the infield who help the team succeed. These players include the first and second basemen, the shortstop, and the third baseman. Each of these positions has a specific role to play in the game, and each player brings their own skills and talents to the team.
The first baseman is responsible for catching balls that are hit by the batter. They must be able to stretch out and catch balls that are thrown high or low, as well as those that are fielded close to them. The first baseman must also be able to throw the ball accurately to the second baseman or pitcher when they are trying to get an out.
The second baseman is responsible for covering the area between first and second base. They must be quick on their feet to field balls that are hit in their direction. They must also be able to make accurate throws to first base when they are trying to get an out.
The shortstop is responsible for covering the area between second and third base. They must be quick on their feet to field balls that are hit in their direction. They must also be able to make accurate throws to first or second base when they are trying to get an out.
The third baseman is responsible for covering the area between third base and home plate They must be quick on their feet to field balls that are hit in their direction. They must also be able to make accurate throws to first or second base when they are trying to get an out.
The Outfield
The outfield is composed of three positions, left field Center Field, and Right Field. These positions are so named from the batter’s perspective looking towards home plate Outfielders must cover large distances – sometimes up to 360 feet or more – and field balls hit with high arching trajectories. They must be able to catch fly balls and line drives on the run. Outfielders also bat in the lineup position between first and second basemen, usually batting ahead of the pitchers.
