Ub Baseball: A team on the Rise

The UB baseball team is a team on the rise. They have great potential and are always improving.

The Team:

The University of California Berkeley Baseball Team has been on the rise in recent years The team has made it to the NCAA tournament three times in the last five years and has won two Pac-12 championships. The team is made up of a mix of experienced veterans and talented young players

The pitching staff is led by senior ace Cole Irvin, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft Irvin is joined by a crop of young pitchers who have the potential to be stars at the collegiate level.

Infielders Nick Madrigal and Andrew Vaughn are two of the best hitters in college baseball Madrigal, a junior, was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 2018 MLB draft Vaughn, a sophomore, is a leading candidate for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award which is given to the nation’s top amateur player.

The team’s success has been due to its ability to develop players and its commitment to recruiting top talent. Head Coach David Esquer has been with the program for 18 years and has seen it through its ups and downs. Esquer’s goal is to make Cal Baseball one of the top programs in the country.

The History:

The University of Bridgeport baseball team has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the school. The team has seen many Great players come and go over the years, and has even won a few championships along the way.

The team was founded in the early 1900s, and was one of the first collegiate teams in the country. They quickly rose to prominence, winning several championships in their early years. In recent years the team has been on the rise again, winning several conference titles and making several deep runs in the NCAA Tournament

The team is currently coached by Jason Schantz, who is in his seventh season at the helm. Coach Schantz has led the team to new heights, including a conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2017. Under his leadership, the team has become one of the top programs in Division II baseball

The Stadium:

The University of Bridgeport’s new baseball stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that was completed in the fall of 2017. The facility features a Turf Field two bullpens, a weight room, locker rooms and offices for the Coaching Staff The stadium also has a concessions stand, press box, and seating for 300 fans. The field is named after long-time head coach John Abbate.

The Retrievers will look to improve on their 11-24 record from last season and make a run at the conference tournament The team is led by senior shortstop Mikey Hopkins (.333, 1 HR, 12 RBIs), who was named to the All-Conference second team last year. Hopkins will be joined by fellow seniors Brandon Holveck (3B/P, .309, 4 HR, 22 RBIs) and Matt Null (CF/P, .279, 2 HR, 16 RBIs). Holveck was also named to the All-Conference second team last season while Null was an honorable mention. On the mound, the Retrievers will be led by junior right hander Ryan Dougherty (2-4, 4 saves, 3.86 ERA), who was named to the All-Conference second team last year. The team will also look to get contributions from sophomore left hander Andrew Gottwals (1-4, 5 saves, 3.73 ERA), who was named honorable mention All-Conference last season, and senior right hander Austin Zalaski (1-3, 6.14 ERA), who didn’t pitch much last year but has looked good in preseason scrimmages.”

The Post-Season:

After an impressive regular season the University of Bridgeport’s Baseball Team looks to make noise in the post-season.

Under the leadership of Head Coach John Foristall, the Purple Knights have put together a strong campaign in 2019. The team has a record of 33-17 and has secured a spot in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.

This will be the first time the Purple Knights have qualified for the regional tournament since 2015. They will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament and punch their ticket to the NCAA Division II World Series

The regional tournament will begin on May 16th and will be held at West Point New York. The Purple Knights will take on crosstown rival Sacred Art University in their first game of the tournament.

The Rookies:

The Ub baseball team is on the rise with a great group of rookies. These rooks have brought energy and skill to the team, and they show a lot of promise for the future. Some of these young players are already making an impact on the game, and they are sure to be a force to reckon with in the years to come. Here are some of the players that you should keep an eye on:

Pitcher Ethan Lindow is one of the top prospects on the team. He has a great arm and good control of his pitches. He is also a hard worker and is always looking to improve his game.

Infielder Jake Bailey is another player that has impressed the coaching staff He has a good bat and can play all over the infield. He is a smart player that always seems to make the right play.

Outfielder Brady Thomas is one of the fastest players on the team. He can track down any ball hit in his direction and has a great arm. He also has a good eye at the plate and is willing to take a walk when needed.

The Veterans:

The University of Bridgeport Baseball Team is coming off a historic season in which they made it to the NCAA Division II College World Series for the first time in program history. The team was led by a core group of veterans, who will be looking to continue their success in the 2019 season.

The team is led by senior captain Matt Saccone, who was named an All-American last season. Saccone is a talented pitcher who has the ability to take over a game on the mound. He will be joined by fellow seniors Nicky Rosetti and Chris Joyce, who are also key members of the pitching staff.

The Position players are headlined by first baseman Mike Marra, who was also named an All-American last season. Marra is a power hitter who can change the game with one swing of the bat. He will be supported by senior second baseman Vinny DiCienzo and junior third baseman Joe Palumbo.

The Veterans will be looking to lead the University of Bridgeport Baseball team back to the NCAA Division II College World Series in 2019.
