The SUNY Ulster Baseball Team is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC). The team is coming off a successful 2019 season in which they had a record of 22-21 and made it to the conference tournament semifinals.
The team is led by Head Coach John Spaccarotelli, who is entering his sixth season at the helm. Coach Spaccarotelli has a career record of 133-108 at SUNY Ulster, and he has coached the team to two conference tournament appearances. Under his guidance, the team has steadily improved each year and is poised for another Successful Season in 2020.
The team returns a core group of players from last year’s squad, including All-Conference shortstop Mike Norton. Norton was one of the top hitters in the conference last year, batting .367 with four home runs and 32 RBIs. He will be joined by fellow All-Conference selection Nick Falco, who batted .340 with three home runs and 29 RBIs. The two will anchor a strong lineup that should give the team a chance to compete for a conference title
On the mound, the team will be led by All-American pitcher Tom Colangelo. Colangelo was one of the top pitchers in Division II last year, going 10-1 with a 1.65 ERA. He will be joined by fellow All-Conference pitchers Nate Begley and Chris Sacco. Begley went 6-4 with a 3.38 ERA last year, while Sacco went 5-5 with a 4.50 ERA. The pitching staff will have to replace All-American closer Rob DiLauro, who graduated after last season.
