Who’s on Top?

In the Atlantic hockey standings it’s fair to say that any team can win on any given night. That parity has been on display all season, and it’s one of the things that makes the conference so exciting.

Right now, there are just four points separating first place from last place. That means that every game is crucial, and that there is still everything to play for.

Here is a look at the current standings:

1. Rochester Institute of Technology – 31 points
2. Canisius College – 30 points
3. Niagara University – 29 points
4. Mercyhurst University – 28 points
5. Air Force Academy – 27 points
6. Bentley University – 26 points
7. Sacred Art University – 26 points
8. Army West Point – 25 points

The Contenders

As we enter the final stretch of the season, there are a few teams that stand out as contenders for the Atlantic Hockey title.

The first team to watch is Canisius. The Golden Griffins have been near the top of the standings all season and they have the second-best overall record in the conference. They are led by senior forward Dylan McLaughlin, who is one of the leading scorers in the nation.

Another team to watch is Army. The Black Knights have been one of the most consistent teams in the conference and they have a solid group of forwards led by senior captain Cole Perry. They also have a strong defense, which is anchored by junior goaltender army Franklin.

Lastly, don’t count out Mercyhurst. The Lakers have struggled at times this season, but they always seem to find a way to win when it matters most. They are led by their top line of forwards, which includes seniors Zach Gilchrist and Ryan Devlin.

The Pretenders

The Atlantic hockey standings are a bit of a mess right now, with no clear-cut favorite emerging. There are a handful of teams that could make a run at the conference title but there are also a lot of Pretenders. Who’s on top? Let’s take a look.

1. Air Force – The Falcons are currently atop the standings, but they have been up and down all season. They have the talent to make a run, but they will need to be more consistent if they want to win the conference.
2. Army – The Black Knights have been one of the most surprising teams in the country this season. They are young and inexperienced, but they have shown flashes of brilliance. They will be dangerous come tournament time.
3. Bentley – The Falcons are right in the thick of things, sitting third in the standings. They have been one of the most consistent teams in the conference and should be a factor come tournament time.

The Dark Horses

The Mercyhurst Lakers have been on a roll as of late. The team has won six games in a row, and are now tied for second place in the Atlantic Hockey Standings with the Air Force Falcons

The Falcons are currently in first place, but have a tough road ahead, as they still have to face the likes of the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers and the Bentley Falcons. The Lakers, on the other hand, have an easier schedule, as they only have to face one team above them in the standings.

It will be interesting to see how these two teams fare in the second half of the season. Will the Lakers be able to maintain their recent success? Or will they falter down the stretch? Only time will tell.

The Longshots

The season is halfway over, and there are a few teams at the bottom of the standings that are starting to pull away from the pack. Here’s a look at the three teams that have been the biggest surprise this season.

The Longshots

1. Niagara Purple Eagles

Niagara has been one of the biggest surprise this season. They are currently in last place in the conference, but they have shown some flashes of brilliance. They have wins over top teams like Quinnipiac and Cornell, and they nearly upset Mercyhurst in their last game. If they can string together a few more wins, they could easily find themselves in contention for a playoff spot.

2. Robert Morris Colonials

Robert Morris has been one of the most consistent teams in the conference this season. They currently sit in second-to-last place in the standings, but they have only lost four games in conference play They also have some big wins under their belt, including victories over Air Force and Sacred Heart If they can keep up their strong play, they should have no problem making the playoffs

3. Bentley Falcons
Bentley has been one of the best teams in the conference this season. They currently sit atop the standings with an impressive 12-3-1 record in conference play They have also beaten some of the top teams in the conference, including Air Force and Niagara. If they can keep up their strong play, they should have no problem making a deep run in the playoffs.

The Wildcards

In order to make the playoffs in Atlantic Hockey, a team has to either earn one of the top four spots in the standings, or they have to be one of the two best teams remaining (wildcards). The top four teams in the standings will get a first-round bye and home ice advantage. The 5th and 6th seed will play each other, as will the 7th and 8th seed.

The winner of the 5/6 game will play the 4th seed, and the winner of the 7/8 game will play the 3rd seed. These are all best-of-three series. The winners of those two series move on to play in Rochester, New York at Blue Cross Arena This is a single elimination tournament, meaning that once you lose, you’re out.

The two wildcards this year are Mercyhurst and Army.

The Bubble Teams

In college hockey “The Bubble” refers to the teams that are on the fence for making the NCAA tournament The standings are very close and it is anyone’s game. Here is a list of the teams that are classified as “The Bubble” teams.

-Providence
-Maine
-UMass Lowell
-Vermont
-Connecticut

Conclusion

After a long and grueling season, the top four teams in the Atlantic Hockey Standings have emerged. Who will come out on top?

The first place team is the Air Force Falcons, who have a record of 24-6-4. They are followed closely by the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers, who have a record of 22-8-4. In third place are the Mercyhurst Lakers, who have a record of 20-10-4. Rounding out the top four are the Canisius Golden Griffins who have a record of 18-12-6.

All four of these teams have been among the best in the league all season, and it is no surprise that they find themselves at the top of the standings. The race for first place will be close, but the Air Force Falcons seem to have the advantage heading into the final stretch of the season.
