Introduction

Saint Anselm College has a long and proud tradition of excellence in field hockey The team has been a perennial power in the Northeast-10 Conference, winning the conference championship 20 times in the last 25 years. In addition, the team has made 12 appearances in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship including five trips to the Final Four.

The current Field hockey program at Saint Anselm is built on a foundation of success that dates back to the early years of the college. In fact, Saint Anselm fielded its first field Hockey Team in 1934, just two years after the college was founded. Since then, the program has produced numerous All-Americans, Olympians, and professional players.

Today, the Saint Anselm Field Hockey program is one of the most successful in Division II. The team is consistently ranked among the top teams in the region and competes against some of the best teams in the country. Head Coach Meredith Black leads a talented group of student-athletes who are dedicated to continuing the tradition of excellence that has defined Saint Anselm Field Hockey for more than 80 years.

The College’s field hockey History

Saint Anselm College Field Hockey is a tradition of excellence that dates back over a century. The program has produced numerous All-Americans, National Champions and Olympians. The College has also been recognized as one of the top academic institutions in the country for field hockey student-athletes.

The College’s rich field hockey history began in 1896 with the formation of the Saint Anselm Athletic Association. The first intercollegiate game was played against nearby New Hampshire College (now the University of New Hampshire) in 1897. The contest ended in a 0-0 tie.

In the early years of the program, games were often played against local High School teams. In fact, it wasn’t until 1913 that Saint Anselm fielded its first varsity team The squad compiled an undefeated record that season and went on to win the New England field hockey Association Championship.

Since those early days, Saint Anselm College Field Hockey has established itself as one of the elite programs in the country. The team has won 15 New England Championships and made 17 NCAA tournament appearances, including five trips to the Elite Eight. In 2000, the team captured its first and only national title with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over #1-ranked Rowan University in the NCAA Division II Championship game

Under Coach Stuper’s leadership, the team has achieved tremendous success. In addition to winning numerous conference championships, the team has also made several appearances in the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament In 2008, the team made it all the way to the Final Four.

Saint Anselm College has been home to some of the best field hockey coaches in the country. Under their guidance, the team has won numerous conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA Tournament Here are some of the most notable coaches in Saint Anselm history:

-MaureenAMES: Maureen Ames coached the field Hockey Team at Saint Anselm for 21 seasons, from 1984-2005. During her tenure, she led the team to 12 conference championships and 12 NCAA tournament appearances. She was named Coach of the Year by the National field hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) in 2001 and 2004.

-Carol Davenport: Carol Davenport took over as head coach of the field Hockey team in 2006 and led the team to nine consecutive conference championships and seven NCAA tournament appearances. Under her guidance, the team had a record of 183-24-1. She was named NFHCA Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2010.

-AnneMarie Laplante: AnneMarie Laplante became Head Coach of the field hockey team in 2016. In her first season, she led the team to a Conference Championship and an appearance in the NCAA tournament She was named NFHCA Coach of the Year in 2017.

The College’s field Hockey Players have earned many accolades over the years, including numerous All-American and All-Conference selections. In recent years the team has continued to enjoy success, winning the conference championship in 2013 and qualifying for the NCAA Division III field hockey Championship in 2014. The team is currently coached by Katie Bakos, who is in her fourth season at the helm.

The College’s field hockey future is bright. The team has been successful at the Division III level and is looking to move up to Division I in the near future. The team has a strong tradition of excellence, dating back to its days as a Division I program. The team has won multiple conference championships and has made several appearances in the NCAA Tournament The team is coached by Sarah Rountree, who is entering her sixth season at the helm. Rountree has led the team to a record of 84-24-3 during her tenure, including a conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2016.
