SEO Basics
If you’ve been in the online marketing space for any length of time, you’ve probably heard of SEO. Search Engine Optimization is the process of optimizing a website for Google (and other search engines) with the goal of earning higher web traffic levels and improving the visibility of the site.
Set up GSC and Bing Webmaster tools
If you want your website to rank in Google and other search engines, you need to set up Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools) and Bing Webmaster Tools. These are free services offered by Google and Microsoft respectively that help you understand how your website is being seen by the search engines.
Setting up these tools is fairly straightforward — you just need to verify that you own the website using either a DNS record or HTML file upload, and then you can start using the features. Once you’ve set up an account, you can use the tools to submit your sitemap, which is a file that tells the search engine what pages on your website are available to be crawled and indexed. You can also use the tools to see how often your pages are being crawled, what keywords they are ranking for, and whether there are any errors that are preventing them from being indexed properly.
If you want your website to rank in Google and other search engines, setting up Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools) and Bing Webmaster Tools is essential. These free services offered by Google and Microsoft respectively help you understand how your website is being seen by the search engines, so that you can make sure it is being indexed properly and ranking for the right keywords.
Set up Google Analytics
One of the most important things you can do to improve your website’s SEO is to set up Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a free web analysis tool that provides website owners with valuable insights about their website traffic and marketing effectiveness.
To set up Google Analytics, you’ll need to create a Google account and then sign up for a free Analytics account. Once you’ve done this, you can add the Google Analytics tracking code to your website.
The Google Analytics tracking code is a snippet of JavaScript that collects data about your website visitors and sends it to the Google Analytics servers. This data is then processed and used to generate reports about your website traffic.
Adding the tracking code to your website is simple and only requires adding a few lines of code to your web pages. For more information about how to do this, check out the Google Analytics help center.
Install and configure an SEO plugin (wordpress)
Adding an SEO plugin to your WordPress site is a great way to ensure that your site is optimized for search engines. There are a variety of plugins available, but we recommend Yoast SEO. Yoast SEO is a popular plugin that is available for free in the WordPress plugin repository. Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you will need to configure it.
Configuring Yoast SEO
The first thing you need to do is go to the SEO → General tab and click on the “Features” tab. From here, you can enable or disable features as desired. We recommend that you enable all of the features, but it is up to you.
Once you have enabled or disabled the features as desired, click on the “Your info” tab. Here, you will need to add your site’s title and description. The title and description will be used by search engines when they index your site.
After you have added your title and description, click on the “Webmaster Tools” tab. Here, you can add your Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools verification codes. These codes are used by Google and Bing to verify that you are the owner of your site.
Once you have added your webmaster tools codes, click on the “Taxonomies” tab. Here, you can set which taxonomies should be visible to search engines. We recommend that you only make taxonomies visible to search engines if they are relevant to your content. For example, if your site is about tennis, there is no need to make the “category” taxonomy visible to search engines since it is not relevant to your content.
After you have made all of your changes, click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page.
Keyword Research
One of the most important aspects of SEO is keyword research. Without proper keyword research, you will not be able to rank your website high in the search engines. Gautier Tennis is a great keyword research tool that can help you find the right keywords for your website.
Identify your competitors
To identify your competitors, you’ll need to do some research. You can start by searching for keywords related to your business. For example, if you sell tennis equipment, you might search for “tennis equipment.”
Once you have a list of keywords, you can use a tool like Google AdWords Keyword Planner to find out how many people are searching for those keywords. This will give you an idea of how much competition there is for each keyword.
You can also use a tool like Google Trends to see how the popularity of each keyword has changed over time. This can help you identify trends that you can capitalize on.
Once you’ve identified your competitors, take some time to research their business models and marketing strategies. This will help you understand their strengths and weaknesses, and it will give you ideas for how to differentiate your own business.
Conduct a keyword gap analysis
Before you begin your keyword research, it can be helpful to conduct a keyword gap analysis. This will help you identify which keywords your competitors are targeting that you are not, and vice versa. This can be a valuable way to find new opportunities for your business.
To conduct a keyword gap analysis, start by identifying your top three competitors. Then, using a tool like Google AdWords Keyword Planner, enter each of your competitor’s URLs into the “Your product or service” field. The keyword planner will then generate a list of keywords that your competitors are targeting.
Next, compare this list to the keywords that you are currently targeting. If there are any gaps, these may be potential opportunities for you to target. For example, if your competitor is targeting the keyword “tennis shoes,” but you are not, this could be an opportunity for you to begin targeting this keyword.
Once you have identified potential keywords to target, do further research to determine which keywords are most likely to convert into customers or clients. This can be done through tools like Google AdWords Keyword Planner or Google Trends. Finally, once you have selected the most promising keywords, add them to your website and begin optimizing your site for these keywords.
Find your main ‘money’ keywords
One of the most important steps in any successful SEO campaign is keyword research. By targeting the right keywords, you can make sure that your website appears at the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs) for searches that are relevant to your business.
There are a number of different methods that you can use to conduct keyword research, but one of the simplest and most effective is to start with a “seed” list of keywords and then use a tool like Google’s Keyword Planner to expand that list and find other relevant keywords.
Once you have your list of keywords, you can then start optimizing your website for those terms by including them in your content, titles, meta tags, etc.
Technical SEO
Python was created in the late 1980s by Guido van Rossum at the National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science in the Netherlands.
Leverage “Inspect URL” feature in GSC
“Inspect URL” is a feature in Google Search Console (GSC) that lets you check whether your website is correctly implemented according to Google Search guidelines. Simply enter a URL into the “Inspect any URL on your property” field, and GSC will analyze the page and its associated resources. Based on this analysis, GSC will generate a report that highlights any issues that were found.
This report can be used to help troubleshoot problems with your website, and to improve your site’s implementation of Google Search guidelines. In some cases, the “Inspect URL” feature can also be used to submit requests to Google for reconsideration of pages that have been previously penalized.
Ensure your website is mobile-friendly
Technical SEO can be a bit daunting and complex, but one of the most important aspects of it is making sure your website is mobile-friendly. In today’s age, a large portion of traffic comes from mobile devices, so it’s crucial that your website can adjust to fit smaller screens.
There are a few ways to make sure your website is mobile-friendly. The first is to use responsive design, which means that your website will automatically adjust to fit the screen size of the device it’s being viewed on. Another option is to create a separate mobile version of your website that can be accessed from mobile devices.
Whichever route you take, it’s important to test your website on multiple devices to make sure it looks and functions correctly. You should also keep an eye on your Google Analytics data to see how much traffic is coming from mobile devices and which pages are being accessed most frequently. By ensuring your website is mobile-friendly, you’ll be able to reach a wider audience and provide a better experience for everyone who visits your site.
Check your site’s loading speed
Slow website loading speed is a major problem for many businesses. It not only frustrates users, but also has a negative impact on search engine optimization. In fact, site loading speed is one of the key factors that Google uses to rank websites. So if your site is slow, you’re not only losing visitors, but you’re also making it harder for people to find your business online.
Fortunately, there are a number of ways to improve your site’s loading speed. One of the most effective is to use a content delivery network (CDN). A CDN is a network of servers that deliver content to users based on their location. By using a CDN, you can ensure that your content is delivered as quickly as possible, no matter where in the world your users are located.
In addition to using a CDN, there are a number of other things you can do to improve your site’s loading speed. For example, you can optimize your images so that they take up less space and load faster. You can also minify your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files so that they are smaller and take less time to load. If you’re not sure how to do these things, there are plenty of resources available online that can help you get started.
Improving your website’s loading speed is essential if you want to rank well in search engines and provide a positive experience for your users. Fortunately, there are a number of easy ways to do it.
On-page and Content
Gautier Tennis is a website that sells tennis equipment. They have been in business since 2010 and have a very good reputation. On-page and content is important for any website, but especially for a website that sells products. Gautier Tennis has a lot of content on their website that is well written and informative. This is one of the reasons why they rank so well in the search engines.
Title tags are an important ranking factor for Google, so it’s important to make sure they’re optimized correctly. Here are some tips:
– Make sure your title tags are unique and descriptive
– Avoid duplicate title tags
– Avoid truncated title tags
– Use keyword-rich titles
Find and fix duplicate or missing meta descriptions
If you want your website to rank well in search engine results pages, it’s important to have unique and relevant meta descriptions for each page. A meta description is a short summary of a web page’s content, typically appearing underneath the page’s title in the search engine results.
Having duplicate or missing meta descriptions can hurt your website’s SEO. To find and fix these problems, you can use a tool like Screaming Frog SEO Spider to crawl your website and identify any duplicate or missing meta descriptions. Once you’ve found the problem pages, you can either edit the existing meta descriptions or add new ones.
Use Heading Tags (H1, H2, H3) to Identify Important Sections of Your Copy
It’s important to format your copy using Heading tags (H1, H2, H3, etc.), so that both readers and search engines can identify the most important sections.
Most importantly, only use ONE H1 tag per page. The H1 tag should be used to identify the main title or topic of the page. For example:
H1: On-page and Content – (A Gautier Tennis?)
If you have multiple H1 tags on a page, it confuses both readers and search engines, and makes it more difficult for them to identify the most important information. If you’re not sure if you have more than one H1 tag on a page, you can use a free online tool like SEO Site Tools to check.
Once you’ve identified all of the H1 tags on your page, take a look at the copy under each one. Is the copy clear and concise? Does it accurately reflect the topic of the section? If not, make changes until it does.
Off-Page SEO
Off-page SEO techniques are those techniques that can be used to improve the position of a website in the search engine results pages (SERPs). The main aim of off-page SEO is to build links from other websites to your own website. This shows the search engines that your website is popular and relevant, and so they will rank it higher in the SERPs. There are many different off-page SEO techniques, but some of the most popular ones include link building, social media marketing, and article marketing.
Analyze your competitor’s link profile
As you analyze your competitor’s link profile, you will want to identify the different types of links that they have. The most common types of links are:
-Inbound links from other websites
-Internal links from their own website
-Outbound links to other websites
In order to get a complete picture of your competitor’s link profile, you will want to gather data on all of the different types of links they have. You can do this by using a variety of tools, such as:
-Majestic SEO – This tool allows you to see the number of inbound links a website has, as well as the number of internal and external links.
-Open Site Explorer – This tool allows you to see the number of inbound links a website has, as well as the number and type of outbound links.
-AHrefs – This tool allows you to see the number of inbound links a website has, as well as the number and type of internal and external links.
Conduct a link intersect analysis
An intersect analysis is a great way to find out what links your competitors have that you don’t. To do this, you’ll need two things:
-A list of your competitor’s sites
-A list of sites that link to your competitors, but not to you
There are a few ways to get these lists. The easiest is to use a tool like BuzzSumo or linkAnalysis.com.
Once you have your lists, it’s time to intersect them. This can be done manually, but it’s much faster and easier to use a tool like Link Intersect (linkintersect.com).
Link Intersect will give you a list of sites that link to your competitors, but not to you. This is valuable because it means these are opportunities for you to get links from high-quality websites.
To take advantage of these opportunities, simply reach out to the site owner and ask if they would be willing to link to your site as well. Often times, they will be happy to oblige.
Target your competitors’ broken backlinks
Your competitors’ broken backlinks are your opportunities. By finding and targeting their broken backlinks, you can quickly outrank them in search engine results pages (SERPs).
How do you find your competitors’ broken backlinks?
There are a few different ways:
– Use a tool like Ahrefs, Moz, or Majestic to check for links that are no longer working.
– Use Google Search Console to find 404 errors on your competitor’s website.
– manually check a small sample of your competitor’s links to see if they’re working.
Once you’ve found some broken links, reach out to the website owner and let them know. Most webmasters will be happy to replace the link with a working one, and you’ll get a valuable link in the process.
