History

The Alexandria Basketball Program is one of the most successful in the state of Indiana. The program has won 5 State Championships 20 sectional championships, and 12 Regional Championships The teams have also made 3 trips to the Final Four. The success of the program is due in large part to the support of the community. Alexandria is a small town with a population of just over 2,000 people. Despite its size, the town has produced numerous successful basketball players including two-time NBA All-Star Steve Alford and current NBA player Eric Gordon

The Alexandria Basketball Program has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. The first recorded game took place in 1902, when Alexandria beat a team from nearby Frankfort by a score of 28-16. In those early years, games were often played on makeshift courts with teams composed of family members and friends. As interest in the sport grew, so did the level of competition. By the 1920s, Alexandria was playing against some of the best teams in Indiana, including Evansville, Muncie, and Anderson.

In 1925, the first formal Basketball League in Indiana was formed, and Alexandria joined as a founding member. The league was called the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) geo basketball scores sports tournament scores.. From its inception until 1961, only schools with enrollments of less than 400 students could compete in the IHSAA tournament. This meant that Alexandria was often competing against larger schools who had an advantage in numbers. Despite this disadvantage, Alexandria had much success in those early years, winning 3 state championships between 1925 and 1933.

In 1961, the IHSAA expanded its tournament to include all schools regardless of enrollment size. This change allowed more schools to compete for the state championship but it also meant hat smaller schools like Alexandria would have to play against much larger schools. In spite of this challenge, Alexandria continued to find success on the court; between 1961 and 1979, they won 2 State Championships and made 3 trips to the Final Four.

Since 1979, Alexandria has continued to be one of the top basketball programs in Indiana; they have won 5 more State Championships and made 9 more trips to
