A&M Baseball Roster: Who’s Who?

The Aggies baseball team is one of the most successful programs in the country, and they always seem to have a few players drafted into the MLB each year. Here’s a look at the current roster and some of the key players.

A&M Roster

The A&M baseball roster is full of talented athletes that are looking to make an impact on the game. The team is made up of both experienced veterans and fresh young faces. Here is a look at the team’s roster.

Outfielders

The outfield is often where the best athletes on a baseball team play. They need to have the arm strength to make long throws from the deep part of the outfield, as well as the speed and agility to track down fly balls. Here’s a look at who will be patrolling the outfield for Texas A&M this season.

Logan Foster
Foster is a senior from Brenham, Texas. He has played in all but one game over his three years at A&M, and he has been a starter for the past two seasons. He is a left-handed hitter who has good speed and is solid defensively. He is also a good bunter and has been used as a pinch-runner on occasion.

Cole Bedford
Bedford is a junior from College Station, Texas. He was injured for much of his first two years at A&M, but he was healthy last year and played in 44 games, mostly as a reserve outfielder. He is a right-handed hitter with good power. He will likely be used as a pinch-hitter or late-inning defensive replacement this season.

Ryne Birk
Birk is a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas. He redshirted his first year at A&M, then played in just four games last season. He is a left-handed hitter who has good speed and is considered to be an outstanding defensive outfielder. He will likely be used as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-runner this season.

Infielders

The infield is the area of the baseball field closest to the batter. It is composed of four positions: first base, second base, third base and shortstop. The term “infielder” is used to describe all nine defensive players who occupy these positions when the pitcher is on the mound.

Infielders must have quick reflexes and be able to make accurate throws to first base in order to prevent runners from advancing. They also need to be able to field ground balls cleanly and turn double plays quickly.

The following is a list of the infielders on the A&M baseball roster:

First Base:
-- Jake McDonald
-- Gage McKinzie
-- Colton Shaver
-- Jordan Watson

Second Base:
-- Michael Helman
-- Braden Shewmake

Shortstop:
-- Blake Allemand

Third Base:
-- George Janca

Catchers

Backstop is one of the most important and demanding positions on the field, requiring a rare combination of athleticism, courage and leadership. It’s a position that has been held by some of baseball’s greatest players, including Yogi Berra, Johnny Bench and Mike Piazza.

The A&M Baseball team is fortunate to have two exceptional catchers in senior All-American Mitchell Kilkenny and junior Nick Choruby. Both players bring a wealth of experience and talent to the team and will be key leaders on and off the field.

Kilkenny, a native of Katy, Texas, was named All-Big 12 first team and All-American by the NCBWA as a junior after leading the Aggies with a .333 batting average, 10 home runs and 46 RBI. He also threw out 20 would-be base stealers, which ranked second in the conference.

Choruby, from Austin, Texas, was an all-conference honorable mention selection as a sophomore after batting .288 with four home runs and 27 RBI. He also threw out 14 base runners while only committing two errors all season.

A&M Pitching Rotation

A&M will have one of the strongest pitching rotations in the SEC this season. Junior right-hander Ty Coleman will lead the way after posting a 3.48 ERA in 82.2 innings pitched last season. He’ll be followed by senior left-hander Ryan Hendrix, who had a 3.86 ERA in 74.1 innings pitched last season. Rounding out the rotation will be junior right-hander Kyle Simon and sophomore left-hander Mitchell Kilkenny.

Starters

Every weekend, six Aggie pitchers take the mound to compete in a three-game series. The first game of the series is started by the Friday Night Starter, followed by the Saturday Starter, and lastly, the Sunday Starter.

The Friday Night Starter is typically the Ace of the staff and has been pitching at a high level for multiple years. This player is relied on to set the tone for the weekend and give his team a chance to win every game.

The Saturday Starter is a player who has shown great improvement throughout his career and has worked his way up to becoming a reliable pitcher on Saturdays. This player is counted on to win key games on Saturday and help his team take control of the series.

The Sunday Starter is typically the youngest player in the weekend rotation. This player is still developing his skills but has shown enough promise to earn a spot in the starting rotation. The Sunday Starter is counted on to close out the series and give his team a chance to win on Sunday.

Relievers

The relief pitchers for A&M baseball team are some of the most important members of the team. They come into the game when the starting pitcher is having difficulty or when the game is close and their team needs some fresh arms to hold the other team back. These pitchers have a lot of pressure on them, but they also have the chance to be the hero of the game if they can get their team out of a tough spot. Here are some of the relief pitchers on A&M’s roster:

-Sean Leland: Sean is a senior who has been pitching for A&M since he was a Freshman. He is one of the most experienced members of the pitching staff and has been a key contributor to the team over the years.
-Luke Murphy: Luke is a junior who transferred to A&M from another school after his freshman year. He has been one of the most consistent relievers for A&M over the past two seasons and has really stepped up his game this year.
-Jacobus Fourie: Jacobus is a sophomore who came to A&M from South Africa. He has only been pitching for a few years, but he has already become one of the best relief pitchers on the team.
-Will Reed: Will is a freshman who was recently added to the pitching staff. He has already shown flashes of brilliance and could be a key member of the team in future years.

Hitting Coach

The Hitting Coach is responsible for developing the team’s hitting strategy and working with individual batters to improve their performance at the plate. A good hitting coach will have a deep understanding of the science of hitting, and be able to communicate effectively with both hitters and other members of the coaching staff.
