The 2020 Appalachian State Baseball roster is filled with experienced players who will provide leadership and production on the field. The Mountaineers will look to defend their 2019 Sun Belt Conference regular season Championship and make a run at the 2020 NCAA tournament Here is a closer look at the 2020 Appalachian State Baseball roster

The Mountaineers have a strong nucleus of players returning from last year’s team that won the regular season title in the Sun Belt Conference The team is led by senior infielder/outfielder Matt Sanders, who was named First Team All-Sun Belt last season. Sanders was one of the top hitters in the conference, batting .302 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs. He will be joined in the outfield by junior Heaston Green, who hit .274 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs last season. The duo will provide power and leadership for an Appalachian State team that is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament after missing out last season.

In the infield, the Mountaineers will be led by senior second baseman Austin Schultz. Schultz was named Second Team All-Sun Belt last season after batting .288 with five home runs and 42 RBIs. He will be joined by third baseman Drew Misener, who hit .273 with three Home Runs and 33 RBIs. The two seniors will provide stability in the middle of the Appalachian State infield.

The pitching staff will be anchored by senior right-hander Tristan Baker, who was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year last season after going 10-4 with a 3.08 ERA. Baker will be joined in the rotation by junior southpaw Alex Sparks, who went 9-3 with a 3.09 ERA last season. The Mountaineers will also have experience in the bullpen, as they return junior right-hander Will Bryan and senior left-hander Tyler Powell. Bryan saved eight games last season while Powell pitched to a 2.25 ERA in 24 relief appearances

The 2020 Appalachian State Baseball Roster is highlighted by its pitching staff. The Mountaineers return two of their three weekend starters from last year in senior left-hander Joe Johnson and junior right-hander Jacob Greer. Johnson was named the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year. He is coming off a 2019 season in which he went 10-4 with a 3.52 ERA in 15 starts. Greer was 6-1 with a 4.31 ERA in 13 starts last season.

1. Jaret Moss (SR/3B): A three-year starter, Moss was named first team All-Sun Belt Conference as a junior after batting .308 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. He is a career .299 hitter with 25 homers and 132 RBI in 189 games played

2. Josh Maduro (R-JR/INF): A two-year starter, Maduro hit .281 with 15 doubles, two triples, two homers and 19 RBI last season. In his career, he has appeared in 85 games with 77 starts and is a career .297 hitter with 111 hits, 23 doubles, four triples, five homers and 62 RBI.

3. Drew Debo (SO/1B): A former Freshman All-American and the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, Debo was also named first team All-Sun Belt Conference after hitting .302 with 18 doubles, four triples, 12 homers and 55 RBI as a freshman in 2019. He played in all 57 games as a freshman, starting 55 at first base.

4. Tyler Tincu (FR/INF): A talented young player who has the ability to play multiple positions on the infield, Tincu was an honorable mention perfect gameAll-American coming out of High School where he was also a first team all-state selection by the ABCA.

The 2020 Appalachian State baseball team will feature a balance of experience and youth in the outfield as the Mountaineers look to build off their 2019 campaign.

Heading into his sixth season at the helm of the Appalachian State baseball program Scott Christensen has announced his team’s 2020 roster. The Mountaineers will welcome back 12 lettermen from last year’s squad that finished 27-26 overall and 15-15 in Sun Belt conference play

Appalachian State will have a total of eight Position players and four pitchers return who saw action in at least 20 games last season. The Mountaineers’ 2020 outfield features a balance of experience and youth as five different players are back who each started at least 10 games in the 2019 campaign.

Leading the way for the returning contingent is senior outfielder Joel McKeithan (Asheville, N.C./Asheville School), who was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference last season after hitting .309 with a team-high 13 home runs 37 RBI and 13 stolen bases McKeithan, who was also named Sun Belt conference tournament MVP after hitting .438 with two homers, four RBI and three stolen bases as the Mountaineers went 4-1 en route to their first league tournament title, enters his final season ranked ninth in school history with 24 career home runs
