Antonucci is a two-time All-American and was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Year in 2016. He is joined by fellow seniors Collin Church (Mount Wolf, Pa. / Northeastern) and Jared Honomichl (Rochester, Minn. / Mayo).

The outfield also features junior Alex Ganter (Allentown, Pa. / Parkland), who was named a First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) in 2016, and sophomore Mark Schreiber (Orefield, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh), who was named a Second Team All-American by the ABCA in 2016.

1. John Cassala: A junior from Fort Lauderdale Florida, Cassala is batting .333 with six home runs and 26 RBIs this season. He has been JU’s most consistent hitter all year long and has come up big in some of their biggest games.

2. Will Proctor: A senior from Atlanta, Georgia, Proctor is batting .305 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. He is one of the team’s leaders both on and off the field, and his power hitting has been crucial to JU’s success this season.

3. Alex Fitzpatrick: A freshman from Orlando, Florida, Fitzpatrick is batting .316 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in his first collegiate season. He has made a seamless transition to college baseball and has been one of JU’s most dangerous hitters all year long.

Here, we take a look at some of the team’s Key Players who have been providing valuable contributions off the bench.

1. Nate Heller – A senior infielder/outfielder, Heller has been a jack-of-all-trades for the Johnnies this season. He’s filled in admirably at shortstop when starter Mikey Batts has been out of the lineup, and has also contributed as a pinch hitter and late-inning defensive replacement.

2. Eddie Cruz – A sophomore right-handed pitcher, Cruz has been one of the Johnnies’ most reliable relief arms this season. He’s appeared in 15 games, compiling a 3-1 record with a 2.70 ERA.

3. Matt Ferraro – A junior left-handed pitcher, Ferraro has also been a key member of the Johnnies’ bullpen this season. In 16 appearances, he’s posted a 3-2 record with four saves and a 2.89 ERA.

4. Ryan Murray – A junior outfielder/infielder, Murray has seen time all over the Johnnies’ lineup this season. He’s hitting .270 with two Home Runs and 18 RBI, and he’s also stolen eight bases while playing solid defense in both outfield corners.

The Jacksonville University Baseball team’s roster is loaded with talented young men. But, who are the players that make up the team?

The team is made up of 19 freshmen, 8 sophomores, 10 juniors, and 5 seniors. The starting lineup features 6 seniors, 3 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 9 freshmen. The lineup is as follows:

Senior Dan Jansen will be starting at first base. He was recently named ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and is coming off a junior season where he batted .333 with 7 home runs and 42 RBIs. Jansen is a two-time ASUN All-Conference First Team selection and was named to the NCAA Coral Gables Regional All-Tournament Team last year.

Junior Austin Rooney will be in the infield at second base. He has started all but two games over his two years at Jacksonville and hit .270 with 2 home runs and 18 RBIs last year. Rooney was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team last season.

Sophomore Messiah Terry will round out the infield at shortstop. He started 27 games as a freshman last season and batted .242 with 15 RBIs. Terry was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week twice last year and led the team with a .982 Fielding percentage

Junior Connor Stephens will start at third base. Stephens played in 42 games with 29 starts last season and hit .267 with 11 RBIs. Stephens was second on the team with a .974 fielding percentage last year.

Freshman Roberto Pena will catch for the Dolphins this season. Pena comes to Jacksonville from Miami, Florida where he played for Miami Dade College. As a freshman at Miami Dade College, Pena batted .317 with 2 home runs and 29 RBIs en route to being named asun conference Player of the Year and NJCAA Division I Second Team All-American catcher.

Freshman Jordan Fowler will start in left field for Jacksonville this season. Fowler comes to Jacksonville from Ocala, Florida where he played for Vanguard High School As a senior at Vanguard high school Fowler hit .455 with 3 home runs and 23 RBIs en route to being named Marion County Player of the Year by the Ocala Star-Banner newspaper

JU coach Terry Alexander has announced his Coaching Staff for the 2020 season. Pitching coach Butch Davis, hitting coach Danny Medina and Assistant Coach Travis Howell will return, while Adam Ward has been hired as the team’s new strength and Conditioning Coach

“I’m very excited about this coaching staff ” said Alexander. “Butch, Danny and Travis have done a great job with our players the last few years and I know they’ll continue to do so. Adam brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program, and I’m confident he’ll do an outstanding job with our players.”

Davis will enter his fourth season with the Dolphins in 2020 after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at JU. In his first three years on Alexander’s staff, Davis has helped guide the Dolphins to a 78-64 (.549) record, including a 38-22 mark (.633) in Sun Belt Conference play.

Under Davis’ tutelage, JU pitchers have posted a 3.70 ERA and struck out 792 batters in 862.2 innings while opponents have batted just .247 against them. The Dolphins have also produced 17 All-Sun Belt Conference selections, two Sun Belt Conference Pitchers of the Year and two Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans during Davis’ tenure.
