Decide on the composition of your cartoon basketball drawing.
Before you start drawing, it helps to decide on the composition, or arrangement, of your cartoon basketball drawing.
You might want to draw a single basketball player shooting a free throw Or, you might want to draw a group of players including both men and women, shooting baskets on an outdoor court.
No matter what you decide to draw, think about how you want to arrange the different elements in your drawing before you begin.
Draw a basic outline of the basketball.
Start by drawing a basic outline of the basketball. For the sake of this tutorial, we’ll make our basketball a perfect circle. But in reality, basketballs are more often oval-shaped. If you want your cartoon to be more accurate, feel free to make your circle an oval.
Once you have your basic shape, it’s time to start adding some details. First, let’s give our basketball some seams. Seams are the raised lines that run along the surface of a Real Basketball and help players grip the ball. To draw seams, simply make two curved lines that run from one side of the ball to the other.
Now let’s add some stripes to our cartoon basketball These stripes can be any width or pattern you like. Just remember to space them out evenly around the ball.
The last thing we need to do is add a surface pattern to our ball. This surface pattern is called pebbling and it helps players grip the ball even better. To draw pebbling, simply make small dots all over the surface of the ball. And that’s it! Your cartoon basketball is now complete.
Add details to the basketball.
Start by drawing a simple circle in the center of your page. This will be the basketball. To make the sides of the basketball more raised, first draw a line around the edge of the circle. Next, draw another line inside the first one and close to the edge of the circle. Finally, add a third line in between the first two. Make sure that all of the lines curve inward so that they resemble the sides of a basketball.
Now it’s time to add some details to your basketball. Start by drawing two lines perpendicular to each other in the center of the ball. These will be the seams of the ball. Then, add some short, curved lines around the outside edge of the ball. These will be the ridges on the surface of the ball. Finally, add some small circles on either side of the ball. These will be the dimples on the surface of a real basketball.
Your cartoon basketball is now complete! You can color it in or leave it as is. If you want to take your drawing skills to the next level, try adding a background and player to your drawing.
Draw the net.
To cartoonize a basketball, start by drawing a large oval. Then, add a small oval inside of the first one. This will become the basketball’s net. Next, add 2 smaller ovals on either side of the net for the backboard. Finally, draw 8 curved lines coming down from the top of the oval to create the “seams” on the ball.
Draw the backboard.
Start by drawing a rectangle in the center of your paper. This will be the backboard. Next, draw a square on top of the rectangle. This will be the rim. Finally, draw a circle inside the square. This will be the basketball net
Draw the hoop.
To start, draw a big circle to represent the hoop. This doesn’t have to be perfect – remember, we’re drawing a cartoon! Next, add a smaller circle inside the first one. This will be the backboard.
Draw the player.
To draw a basketball cartoon, first sketch the player. Draw a oval for the head and a small circle for the nose. Then, add two curved lines for the mouth. Next, draw two large circles for the eyes. Finally, add a small rectangle for the neck and two curved lines for the shoulders.
Add finishing touches to the cartoon basketball drawing.
Now that the basic outline of the basketball is complete, it is time to add some final details to really make it look like a cartoon. First, use a black pen or marker to go over the entire outline of the drawing. This will help to make the lines look cleaner and more defined.
Next, add some shading to the drawing to give it more dimension and depth. Start by lightly shading the entire surface of the ball with a pencil. Then, use a darker pencil or pen to add shadows around the edges of the ball. Add as much or as little shading as you like until you are happy with the results.
Finally, add some highlights to make the ball look shiny and realistic. Use a white pencil or pen to add dots or other small details anywhere you want there to be a highlight. Once again, add as much or as little as you like until you are satisfied with how your cartoon basketball looks.
Colour your cartoon basketball drawing.
Now it’s time to give your cartoon basketball some color. You can do this with whatever medium you like, but make sure to use bright and vibrant colors. Basketballs are usually orange or yellow, so keep that in mind when you’re choosing your colors. You can also add some shading to give your basketball some dimension.
Give your cartoon basketball drawing a title.
Your drawing can be as simple or complex as you like, but it should include the basic features of a basketball. Start by drawing a Basic Shape. This will be the ball itself. To draw a perfect circle, start by drawing a small circle in the center of your paper. Then, working your way outwards, continue drawing increasingly larger circles until you have the desired size. Be sure to smooth out any rough edges.
Next, add some Basic Details. These can include the seams of the ball, a label or logo, and any other small details you want to include. Once you’re happy with your basic details, it’s time to add some shading. Start with a light overall layer of shading, then add darker areas to create depth and dimension. Finally, finish up by adding highlights with a white pen or pencil.
With your basic basketball drawing complete, it’s time to get creative! Add whatever details you like to personalize your cartoon basketball. You could include a player shooting hoops add a funny face for extra personality, or even turn your ball into a character from your favorite team!
