BC Hockey Roster: Who’s Who for the 2017-2018 Season

Forwards

Forwards

The forwards on the BC Hockey Team are a mix of experienced veterans and fresh-faced rookies. With a blend of skill and determination, they are ready to take on anything that comes their way this season.

Leading the charge is captain Joe Pavelski, who is entering his 15th season in the NHL. A fan favorite and team leader, Pavelski is known for his clutch scoring and ability to make plays in big moments. He will be joined by alternate captains Logan Couture and Blake Wheeler. Couture, entering his ninth season, is a two-time Olympian and two-time Stanley Cup Champion. He is coming off a career year in which he set career highs in goals, assists, and points. Wheeler, entering his eleventh season, is a five-time NHL All-Star who brings a mixture of size and skill to the table. He is also coming off a career year in which he set highs in goals, assists, and points.

The forwards also include young up-and-comers like rookies Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. Hischier, the first overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft is an offensive dynamo who has already made an impact at the NHL level. Bratt, drafted 162nd overall in 2016, is a skilled playmaker who wasn’t even expected to make the team but has exceed all expectations thus far. They will be joined by veteran forwards like Taylor Hall, Travis Zajac, Kyle Palmieri, and Drew Stafford. Hall is a former first overall pick who brings speed and scoring ability to the table. Zajac is a dependable two-way forward who has been with the team since 2006. Palmieri is a Power Forward with a knack for scoring goals Stafford is a veteran winger who provides leadership and experience to the young forwards group.

Defense

On the back end, the BC Hockey Team looks to be very strong once again. Led by senior captain Brady Keeper, the defense features a mix of size, strength, and skill. The other returning starters are junior Dylan Cochrane and sophomore Dean McNabb. Both are big bodies that can move the puck well and play a physical game Freshman Levi Kleiboer rounds out the top four. He is a bit undersized but is a great skater with good vision and offensive instincts.

Goaltenders

Goaltenders are the last line of defense and the backbone of any successful Hockey team Here’s a look at the goaltenders who will be suiting up for BC this season.

2017-2018 Roster

The 2017-2018 BC hockey season is in Full Swing and as always, there is a lot of talent on the ice. This year’s roster is no exception, with a mix of both young and veteran players. Here’s a look at some of the standout performers so far this season.

Forwards:

-Michael Ryder: A veteran of 18 NHL seasons, Ryder is currently in his first year with the BC Hockey Club He has been a consistent point-producer throughout his career, and is currently second on the team in scoring with 9 goals and 15 assists in 28 games.

-Blake Wheeler: Another experienced NHL vet, Wheeler is in his second season with BC Hockey. He leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and 20 assists in 28 games. Wheeler is also one of the team’s top penalty-killers and has been a key player for them so far this season.

-TylerToffoli: A young player who is making his mark on the league, Toffoli is currently third on the team in scoring with 9 goals and 12 assists in 28 games. He is a gifted scorer and has been one of the most exciting players to watch so far this season.

Defensemen:

-Drew Doughty: A cornerstone of the BC Hockey franchise, Doughty is one of the best defenseman in the league. He leads all defenseman on the team in scoring with 4 goals and 19 assists in 28 games. Doughty is also one of the league’s top shutdown defenders and has been a key player for BC Hockey so far this season.

-Brent Burns: Another experienced NHL defenseman Burns is in his first season with BC Hockey. He has been a solid two-way player for them so far, chipping in 3 goals and 10 assists in 28 games while also providing some physicality on the back end.

Forwards:

-Kole Lind: A 19-year-old native of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Kole was drafted 33rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft He had an impressive 2016-2017 season with the Kelowna Rockets, tallying 30 goals and 57 assists for 87 points in 70 games. Kole is a skilled playmaker with good vision and an accurate shot. He’s expected to be a key contributor for the team this season.

-Dillon Dube: A 19-year-old forward from Cochrane, Alberta, Dillon was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft He’s a gifted offensive player with great speed and hockey IQ. Dillon had a breakout year last season, racking up 28 goals and 50 assists for 78 points in just 67 games. He’s expected to build on that success this season and be one of the team’s top scorers

-Brett Howden: A 20-year-old forward from Oakbank, Manitoba, Brett was drafted 27th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft He’s a big body with good hands and a nose for the net. Brett is coming off a strong 2016-2017 season in which he tallied 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in 71 games. He’ll look to build on that this season and be a key player for the team down the middle.

Defence:

-Cal Foote: A 18-year old defenseman from Englewood, Colorado, Cal was drafted 14th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft The son of former NHL defenseman Adam Foote, Cal is a big body with Good defensive instincts. He had an impressive rookie season last year with Kelowna, recording 6 goals and 28 assists for 34 points in 70 games. Look for Cal to take on a bigger role on the blueline this season and be one of the team’s top defenders.
