It’s been a long time since we’ve seen any live baseball but the wait is finally over! The Coyote’s are back and better than ever.

The history of the Coyotes baseball team

The Coyotes baseball team originated in 1904 as the Ravenswood Ravens. The Ravenswood Ravens were a semi-professional team that played in the Inter-State League. In 1905, the team became professional and changed their name to the Toledo Mud Hens The Toledo Mud Hens were a farm team for the Detroit Tigers The Mud Hens played in the American Association from 1905 to 1955. In their 50 years in the American Association, the Mud Hens won four league championships (1911, 1915, 1945, 1947).

In 1956, the Mud Hens moved to the National League and changed their name to the Toledo Rockets The Toledo Rockets only played for two seasons before moving to Charleston, West Virginia where they became the Charleston Rockets. In 1960, the Charleston Rockets became a farm team for the Cincinnati Reds and changed their name to the Charleston Charlies.

The Charlotte Charlies played inCharleston until after the season of 1971 when they moved back to Toledo and reverted back to their previous name,the Toledo Mud Hens The Mud Hens remained affiliated with Detroit through 1988 winning five more championships (1967, 1970 , 1972, 1979 , 1987). After 1988 season, Detroit dropped its affiliation with Toledo and they became an affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals till 1992 . The following year they became an affiliate of Montreal Expos which lasted only one year . From 1994-1999 they had no Major League affiliation but resumed play as a Minor League Baseball affiliate of Cleveland Indians in 2000 and have been with them ever since .

The Duluth-Superior Dukes play in the Northwoods League a collegiate summer baseball league The Dukes are entering their 8th season in the league, and are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they went 34-26 and made it to the second round of the playoffs. The team is made up of college players from all around the country, who come to Duluth to play baseball and experience life in the Northwoods.
