General information about David Cone
David Cone (born January 2, 1963) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily for the New York Yankees A five-time All-Star and a two-time World Series champion, he pitched the 16th perfect game in baseball history in 1999. He was inducted into the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame in 2008.
Cone was drafted by the Kansas City Royals out of High School in 1981 and made his MLB debut in 1986. He played for the Royals from 1986 to 1987 and the New York Mets from 1987 to 1992. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992, where he won his first World Series He signed with the Yankees as a free agent in 1995, where he played until 2000, winning four World Series with them. Cone returned to the Mets for two more seasons (2001–2002), before joining his fifth team, the Boston Red Sox where he finished his career alongside Roger Clemens as members of Boston’s “New Big Three” pitching rotation. Following his playing career, Cone served as a color commentator on Yankees broadcasts on YES Network from 2009 to 2017.
Cone has been diagnosed with cortical dysplasia, which caused him to suffer from seizures throughout most of his adult life prior to successful surgery that corrected them in 2019.
