The history of the Dream Academy

The Dream Academy Basketball Club was established in 2006 by Head Coach Andre Chevalier with the mission to provide an opportunity for underprivileged youth to participate in organized basketball and develop their skills in a positive and fun environment. The name of the Club is derived from the “Dream Team”, the nickname given to the 1992 United States Olympic Men’s basketball team which Chevalier was a member of.

With humble beginnings, the club has since grown to include both male and female teams at various age levels ranging from Under-9 to Under-19. participation has increased tenfold, with over 250 athletes representing the Club in various leagues and tournaments across Ontario. The success of the club can be attributed to the commitment of the coaching staff many of whom are current or former university/college players and graduates, as well as the support of local businesses and individuals.

The Dream Academy is much more than just a Basketball Club it is a family. Many of our athletes come from single parent homes or families facing financial difficulties. Our goal is to provide not only basketball instruction but also guidance and support that will help these young people succeed both on and off the court. In addition to practices and games, we offer tutoring and mentorship programs as well as opportunities to give back to the community through our outreach initiatives.

We are proud of our history and what we have been able to accomplish thus far but we are always looking for ways to improve. We want to do more for our athletes and we need your help to make it happen!
