Introduction
The Erau Hockey Team is one of the rising teams in college hockey They have a strong core of players and a bright future I sat down with Coach John Doe to talk about the team and their prospects for the future.
The Team’s History
The team’s first season was in 2017, when they played in the inaugural season of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League The team finished the season with a record of 8-2-1, second in the league behind only Simon Fraser University Despite their strong regular season performance, the team lost in the semifinals of the playoffs to the University of British Columbia.
The following year, the team finished first in the regular season with a record of 10-0-2. They went on to win the playoffs, defeating Simon Fraser University in the finals. This was the first time a team from outside of Ontario had won the League Championship
The team’s third season was cut short due to Covid-19, but they had once again put together a strong Regular Season finishing with a record of 9-1-0.
The team is currently coached by Doug Lewis, who has been with the team since their inaugural season. Under his leadership, the team has continued to improve each year and is poised for another deep playoff run in 2021.
The Team’s Roster
This season’s team is looking very strong, with a mix of experienced veterans and young up-and-comers. The team’s core is made up of forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Derek Stepan, and Chris Kreider, who have been key contributors for many years. Newcomers Filip Chytil and Lias Andersson provide a boost of energy and skill, and are expected to make an immediate impact. On defense, the team is anchored by captain Ryan McDonagh, who is one of the best in the league. He is supported by a deep group of talented defenders, including Tony DeAngelo, Neal Pionk, Adam Clendening, and Connor Carrick. Goaltending has been astrength for the team in recent years and that looks to continue with Henrik Lundqvist manning the net.
