Lucas Giolito- Giolito is a tall right-hander with a Big League pedigree. The son of UCLA pitcher Alex Giolito, Lucas has a college-ready arm and has already drawn comparisons to Major League pitchers Chris Sale and Gerrit Cole. Giolito has a plus fastball that sits in the mid-90s, and he also throws a plus curveball and changeup. He has the potential to be a top of the rotation starter, and he should be a key player for Fenwick baseball as they look to make a run in the postseason.
Sean Newcomb- Newcomb is a left-handed pitcher with prototypical size for an ace (6’5″, 240 pounds). He entered Fenwick High School as one of the most highly touted pitching prospects in the country, and he has lived up to the hype thus far. Newcomb has a plus fastball that sits in the low 90s, and he compliments his fastball with an excellent changeup and curveball. The Fenwick Friars Baseball Team is coached by a dedicated staff who are committed to helping the team succeed. The Head Coach is Sean Ryan, who has been with the team for four years. He is joined by assistant coaches Matt Moran and Steve Pokorny. Coach Pokorny also serves as the team’s pitching coach.
Coach Ryan is a local product, having played his high school baseball at Fenwick. He then went on to play college ball at the University of Iowa After college, he spent time coaching in the minor leagues before returning to Fenwick to take over the baseball program
Moran and Pokorny are both former players at Fenwick. Coach Pokorny was a member of the state championship team in 2001 and went on to pitch at Notre Dame Moran was a three-sport athlete at Fenwick and also pitched at Notre Dame He returned to his alma mater after spending several years coaching at the collegiate level.
All three coaches have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with the team, and they are committed to helping the Friars reach their full potential on and off the field.
