The Florida A&M Rattlers: who they are and what they’re about
The Florida A&M Rattlers are a basketball team that competes in the NCAA Division I. The team is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). They are located in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Rattlers have had moderate success since they began playing basketball in 1954. They have appeared in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament three times, most recently in 2021. Their best season came in 2012, when they won 24 games and made it to the second round of the tournament.
This year, the Rattlers are looking to build on their success from last season. They return four starters from last year’s team, including MEAC Defensive Player of the Year MJ Randolph. With a strong core of returning players and some promising new additions, the Rattlers are poised to have a successful season

The Florida A&M Rattlers are set to begin their basketball season on November 5th. The team is coming off of a Successful Season in which they finished with a record of 17-14 and made it to the MEAC tournament semi-finals. This year, the Rattlers look to improve upon that success and make it to the NCAA tournament
The Rattlers will be led by senior guard MJ Randolph, who was named to the Preseason All-MEAC team. Randolph is joined by fellow seniors Nasir Core and TJ Mitchell as well as junior college transfer Devin Gage in providing experience and leadership for the team. They will be joined by a talented group of freshmen, including 5-star recruit Lebron James Jr.
The Rattlers have a tough schedule ahead of them, but they have the talent and experience to make a run at the MEAC title and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament
The Rattlers’ opponents: who they’ll be playing
The FAMU men’s Basketball team will play 22 conference games and 12 non-conference contests during the 2018-19 regular season They’ll have matchups against some perennial mid-major powers, as well some big fish from major conferences. Here’s a rundown of the Rattlers’ opponents:
Conference USA (C-USA)
The Rattlers will face UTSA, Louisiana Tech Old Dominion, Charlotte, WKU, Florida Atlantic Marshall and Middle Tennessee in conference play All eight of those teams made the postseason last year, with Marshall and WKU advancing to the NCAA tournament
Non-conference
FAMU’s non-conference slate includes games against some tough competition, including two games against in-state foes Florida State and UCF. The Rattlers will also take on Miami (FL), Hofstra, Towson, Jacksonville and Stetson.
The Rattlers’ home games where to catch them in action
The FAMU Rattlers men’s basketball team will soon be back in action, and fans can catch them at home in the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center on the FAMU campus. The Rattlers are coming off a successful season in which they made it to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time in school history. They’ll be looking to build on that success this season, and fans can catch them at home against some of the top teams in the country.
The Rattlers will open their season at home on November 5th against Stetson, and they’ll also have home games against Florida, Florida State Miami, and UCF. The newcomers include freshmen MJ Williams and Devin Hanna, who are both expected to make an immediate impact.
