W&J Basketball: A Look at the Season Ahead

The Washington & Jefferson men’s basketball team is looking to Bounce Back from a disappointing 8-22 season in which they went 4-16 in conference play The team will be led by senior captain Nate Adams, who averaged 12.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season.

The Presidents will have a new Head Coach this season in Brad Byrne, who comes to W&J after spending the last four seasons as an Assistant Coach at Division II West Virginia Wesleyan. Byrne will look to instill a new culture of winning at W&J, and he’ll have a lot of young talent to work with.

The team’s leading scorer from last season, sophomore guard TJ Heindel, will return after averaging 14.1 points per game He’ll be joined by fellow sophomores Matt Lorenzetti and Josh Stone, who both saw significant playing time as freshmen last season.

This year’s freshman class is also one to watch, as it includes several highly-rated recruits from the Pittsburgh area. Guard Mikey Madigan and forward Will Drexler are two players who could make an immediate impact for the Presidents this season.

Head Coach Tony Bennett enters his seventh season at the helm of the Virginia men’s Basketball Program The Cavaliers have won at least 20 games in six of Bennett’s first six seasons, a school record and have been to the NCAA tournament five times during that span.

Entering her third season as head coach of the James Madison women’s Basketball team Sean O’Regan has led the Dukes to back-to-back 20-win seasons and consecutive trips to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

The W&J Basketball Schedule

The Washington & Jefferson College men’s and women’s basketball teams will look to continue their winning ways this season with a tough schedule ahead. The Presidents will face off against some of the best teams in the country, including many conference rivals. Here is a look at the schedule for the upcoming season

The W&J men’s Basketball Team will begin their season on November 15th at home against Carnegie Mellon University. The Presidents will then travel to take on Grove City College on November 18th before returning home to host La Roche University on November 21st. W&J will wrap up their November schedule with a road game against Westminster College on the 27th.

In December, the Presidents will take on Thiel College at home on the 5th before traveling to face Carnegie Mellon again on the 8th. W&J will return home to host Geneva College on December 10th before taking a break for exams. After exams, the team will travel to face Grove City on December 29th and Westminster on December 31st.

The W&J women’s Basketball team will open up their season at home against Carnegie Mellon University on November 15th. The Presidents will then travel to take on Grove City College on November 18th before returning home to host La Roche University on November 21st. The W&J Basketball Roster

The W&J basketball roster is set and the team is looking to build on last year’s success. Head Coach Bob Dibble has a lot of talent to work with and the team is poised to make a run at the conference title

The starting lineup will features seniors Jake Stoller and Matt Jones in the backcourt, junior Brian Flynn at small forward and sophomores Zachary Rippeon and Alec Hoesen in the frontcourt. Stoller and Flynn are the team’s leading scorers, averaging over 15 points per game each. Jones is the team’s best shooter, hitting over 45% of his three-point attempts last season. Rippeon is a physical presence in the paint who averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game last season. Hoesen is a versatile player who can play both inside and out.

The bench is also loaded with talent, led by junior guard Nate Adams. Adams is a sharpshooter who hit 42% of his three-point attempts last season. Other key contributors off the bench include sophomore forward Will Dittman, junior forward/center Tim Priller, and freshman guard/forward Sam Hines.

With a deep and talented roster, the W&J Basketball team is looking to make some noise in the conference this season.

Moreover, they have outscored their opponents by an average of margin of victory of 26.8 points per game which is the best in Division III Fans and students are now wondering if this team has what it takes to make a run at the National Championship

The Basketball Team at W&J has been consistently good over the years, but this season they have been especially dominant. Their offense is clicking on all cylinders, averaging 89.5 points per game which is 2nd in Division III They are also shooting an impressive 50% from the field and 41% from three-point range Additionally, their defense has been stellar, allowing only 62.7 Points per game which is 6th in Division III

The W&J basketball team has a tough road ahead of them if they want to win a National Championship However, based on their performance so far this season, it seems like they have what it takes to make a deep run in the tournament.

W&J’s conference, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), is one of the most competitive in Division III The PAC has produced 3 NCAA Division III National Champions in men’s basketball (W&J in 2015, 2016, and 2017) and 2 national runners-up (W&J in 2018 and 2019).

The W&J men’s basketball team has been one of the most successful programs in all of Division III over the past 5 years. The team has won 3 consecutive PAC championships and has made 4 straight trips to the NCAA Division III tournament. The team has also been ranked nationally in both major polls ( coaches’ poll and D3hoops.com poll) for much of the past 5 years.

This season, the W&J men’s Basketball team will once again be a favorite to win the PAC championship and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament Led by senior guard Mike Panzeri (19.5 ppg, 4 apg), junior forward Jack Doyle (18.1 ppg, 7 rpg), and sophomore guard Matt Cardenas (10.2 ppg, 2 apg), the team will look to continue its recent success.

Head coach Glenn Robinson returns for his fourth season at the helm, and he will have a talented group of players at his disposal.

The Presidents will be led by senior guard JT Thomas, who was named the Division III National Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches last season. Thomas averaged 22.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game last year, and he will be looking to put up big numbers again this season.
