Hampton baseball has a long and proud tradition of excellence. The Hampton baseball program has been one of the most successful in the state of Virginia for many years, winning multiple State Championships and consistently producing top-quality players.

The history of Hampton baseball

Hampton baseball has a rich and storied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The first recorded game took place in 1858, when the Hampton Nine took on the Norfolk Nine. Hampton won that game by a score of 22-18.

Baseball quickly became a popular sport in Hampton, and the Hampton Nine soon became one of the best teams in the region. They frequently played against teams from other cities in Virginia, as well as teams from Maryland and Washington, D.C.

In 1864, the Hampton Nine became one of the founding members of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), which was formed to promote amateurism in sports. The team continued to compete against other AAU teams throughout the 1860s.

In 1870, Hampton joined the Virginia State baseball Association (VSBA), which was formed to promote baseball in Virginia and bring together different teams from around the state. The VSBA held its first championship tournament in 1871, and Hampton won that tournament by defeating Alexandria 9-3 in the final game

The VSBA dissolved in 1874, but Hampton baseball continued to thrive. In 1876, they joined the Petersburg Athletic Club (PAC), which was another Baseball Organization formed to promote baseball throughout Virginia. The PAC held its first championship tournament in 1877, and again, Hampton won that tournament by defeating Alexandria 9-2 in the final game.

Hampton baseball continued to compete against other teams from around Virginia throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1909, they joined the Norfolk & Portsmouth baseball league (N&PBL), which was formed to promote baseball in southeastern Virginia. The N&PBL held its first championship tournament in 1910, and Hampton won that tournament by defeating Portsmouth 6-4 in the final game.

The N&PBL dissolved in 1917 due to WWI, but Hampton baseball continued to compete against other teams from around Virginia during that time period. In 1921, they joined the water baseball Association (TBA), which was another Baseball Organization formed to promote baseball throughout Tidewater Virginia. The TBA held its first championship tournament in 1922, and again, Hampton won that tournament by defeating Newport News 5-1 in the final game.

Hampton baseball continued to compete against other teams from around Tidewater Virginia throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1941, they joined forces with Newport News and Norfolk to form
