The Rivalries
The Rivalries: basketball rivalries are some of the fiercest and most fun in all of sports. These are the games that fans live for, the ones that get circled on the calendar as soon as the schedule is released. Rivalries can be built on history, geography, or simply a shared hatred for one another. Regardless of how they start, they always manage to bring out the best (and sometimes worst) in both teams and their fans.
The Holy Cross – Army rivalry is one of the most storied in college basketball The two teams have been playing each other since 1905, and there is no love lost between them. The Crusaders and Black Knights meet every year in what is known as “The Star Game ” and it is always an intense affair. The Holy Cross – Lehigh rivalry is another one that dates back over 100 years. These two teams have met 185 times, making it the most-played rivalry in Holy Cross history. The Mountain Hawks have had the upper hand lately, but the Crusaders are always looking to even the score.
The Holy Cross – Boston College rivalry might not be as old or as deep-rooted as some of the others on this list, but it is no less intense. These two teams first met on the hardwood in 1918, but they didn’t really start hating each other until 1977, when Boston College joined the Big East Conference and Holy Cross was left out in the cold. Since then, these two teams have met four times in NCAA Tournament play, with each game being decided by four points or less. The most recent meeting came in 2014, when Boston College edged out a 73-70 victory in front of a sold-out crowd at Boston’s TD Garden.
So whether you’re a diehard fan of one of these rivals or simply enjoy watching good basketball, be sure to check out these games!
