How Many Games Does Each NBA Team Play?
The answer to this question largely depends on the NBA schedule for that particular season.
82 Games
In an 82-game season, each team plays every other team in its conference four times and each team in the other conference three times. There are also two games against each far-flung team in the opposite conference, for a total of 30 games outside a team’s own conference.
41 Home Games
All NBA teams play 41 home games as part of the regular season schedule. The home arena for each team is determined by a combination of league rules and individual team preference, and may be located in the city of the team’s name, in a nearby city, or in a completely different state. In addition to their 41 home games, each team also plays 41 away games and 4 games against teams in the same division for a total of 86 regular season games.
41 Away Games
The answer may vary depending on the year, but most NBA teams play 41 away games.
4 Pre-Season Games
All teams play 4 pre-season games. These are used to help coaches make decisions about the composition of their regular season roster, and to allow players to work themselves back into playing shape after the offseason. The score of these games is mostly meaningless, as most starters only play for a few minutes before being replaced by substitutes.
0-8 Playoff Games
0-8 Playoff Games: teams that did not make the playoffs the previous season, or who lost in the first round of the playoffs.
