The Regular Season
The regular season is when all 30 NBA teams play 82 games each.
This year, the regular season will begin on December 22nd, 2020, and end on May 16th, 2021.
The 2021 NBA All-Star Game will be played on February 20th in Indianapolis.
The Playoffs
The playoffs are a best-of-seven series between the eight teams with the best regular season records in each conference, with seeding based on regular season record. The team with the better record hosts games one, two, five and seven (if necessary), and the other team hosts games three, four and six (if necessary).[1]
In the first round of the playoffs, also called the first two rounds, each conference’s bracket is set. The four division winners in each conference are seeded one through four based on their regular season record, with the home court advantage belonging to the higher seed. The other two teams in each conference are “wild card” seeds and can be any of the remaining non-division-winning teams regardless of their overall records; however since 2005 these have been restricted to only those teams finishing with records of .500 or better. These four “wild card” teams are then seeded fifth through eighth based on their regular season record.
