Steve Kerr won three NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, in 1996, 1997, and 1998. All three of those seasons, Kerr was a key player off the bench for the Bulls, averaging over 10 points per game while shooting over 45% from three-point range. In fact, in the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz, Kerr set an NBA record by hitting all 8 of his three-point attempts in Game 6, helping the Bulls close out the series and win their fifth championship in seven years.
San Antonio Spurs
In 1999, the San Antonio Spurs drafted Kerr with the 19th overall pick in the NBA draft. In his first season with the team, Kerr saw limited playing time, averaging just 3.8 points per game in 13.8 minutes per game. However, he played a key role in the Spurs’ push to the NBA Finals, appearing in all five games against the New York Knicks and averaging 6.7 points per game.
Kerr played a larger role on the Spurs’ championship-winning team in 2003, appearing in 78 regular season games and averaging 9.2 points per game. He once again played a key role in the postseason, appearing in all 23 games and averaging 11.5 points per game as the Spurs defeated the New Jersey Nets in six games to win their second championship in five seasons.
Kerr spent two more seasons with the Spurs before being traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2007. In his first season with his new team, Kerr averaged 10.4 points per game and helped lead the Suns to the Western Conference Finals, where they lost to eventual NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, in six games.
