The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a professional basketball league in North America. There are 30 NBA teams, 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada. The NBA teams are divided into two conferences: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Each conference has three divisions: the Atlantic Division, the Central Division, and the Southeast Division in the East; and the Northwest Division, the Pacific Division, and the Southwest Division in the West.
The colors of NBA team jerseys are usually reserved for one of two colors: white at home and a darker color on the road. This is done to help players easily distinguish between their own team mates and players from the opposing team when playing an away game. However, some teams will choose to deviate from this practice in order to better represent their locality or to simply create a more unique identity for their franchise. For example, The Portland Trail Blazers chose to use white as their primary jersey color when they first joined the league in 1970 so as not to clash with any of the other tea ms’ colors at that time; while The Los Angeles Lakers have always used gold as one of their colors to reflect Hollywood’s glamour.
There is also a wide variety of NBA team mascots, each designed to reflect something about their team’s city or region, or about basketball itself. Perhaps the most famous mascot is Benny The Bull from The Chicago Bulls, who entertains crowds during time-outs with his acrobatic antics. Other well-known mascots include Goofy from The Los Angeles Clippers, Boomer & Sooner from The Oklahoma City Thunder, Rocky & Brooklynn from The Denver Nuggets and Clutch from The Houston Rockets.
