How to Shrink an NFL Jersey
Find out how to shrink an NFL jersey to fit you perfectly by following these simple steps that anyone can do at home.
Pre-Shrinking the Jersey
The best way to prevent your NFL jersey from shrinking is to pre-shrink it before you wash it. You can do this by soaking it in a bowl of warm water for about 15 minutes. After that, simply put it in the dryer on a low heat setting for about 20 minutes. This will help to set the fabric and prevent it from shrinking in the future.
Fill a sink or tub with lukewarm water
Fill a sink or tub with lukewarm water. If you are using a sink, make sure that it is big enough to fit the jersey and that the water is not too hot or it may damage the fabric. Add half a cup of laundry detergent to the water and swish it around to mix it in. You can also add ½ cup of white vinegar to the water to help set the colors in the fabric.
Add a small amount of mild detergent
To start, add a small amount of mild detergent to a sink or basin filled with cool water. Stir the water around to help distribute the detergent evenly and then carefully place your jersey into the soapy water. Gently agitate the jersey in the water for a minute or two to help loosen any dirt or grime that may be attached to the fabric. After a few minutes, drain the soapy water from the sink and rinse your jersey thoroughly with clean, cool water.
Submerge the jersey in the water
Submerging the jersey in the water is the first step to pre-shrinking it. You will want to use lukewarm water and completely submerge the jersey. Let it soak for about 15 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Swish it around for a few minutes
When you first get your new NFL jersey, you may notice that it’s a bit too big. Not to worry, though – with a little bit of effort, you can shrink it down to better fit your frame. The best way to do this is to simply swish it around in a bathtub or sink full of cold water for a few minutes. Doing this will cause the fabric to constrict and will result in a smaller overall jersey size.
Drain the sink or tub
Start by draining the sink or tub. If you’re using a sink, plug the drain and fill it with very hot water. If you’re using a tub, fill it with hot water from the tap.
Shrinking the Jersey
You will need the following items: A spray bottle, a sink, a small towel, a larger towel, and a hairdryer.Fill your spray bottle with hot water. Hang your jersey over the sink and spray the entire jersey. Make sure to get the underarms, inside of the collar, and any other areas that might be difficult to reach with your hands.
Fill a sink or tub with hot water
If you have a sink or tub that’s large enough to fit your jersey, fill it with hot water and let the jersey soak for about 15 minutes. This will help loosen the fibers of the fabric and make it easier to shrink.
Add a small amount of mild detergent
You can use any mild detergent when you wash an NFL jersey, but some brands are gentler on clothes than others. vinegar can also be used in combination with detergent to help set the colors of the jersey and make it look new again. Avoid using bleach when you wash jerseys, as this will damage the fabric and cause it to break down over time.
Submerge the jersey in the water
Place the jersey in the sink or basin and submerge it in cool water. If you’re using a washing machine, put the jersey in by itself on a delicate cycle with cool water. Avoid using hot water, as this could set any stains and make them permanent. Allow the jersey to soak for at least 15 minutes to loosen any dirt and sweat that may be embedded in the fabric.
Swish it around for a few minutes
If you’re looking to shrink an NFL jersey, there are a few things you can do. First, you can try washing it in hot water and then putting it in the dryer on high heat. This will usually do the trick. If not, you can try wetting the jersey and then putting it in the dryer on low heat for about an hour. Either way, check the jersey periodically to make sure it’s not shrinking too much. You don’t want to end up with a jersey that’s too small to wear!
Drain the sink or tub
Fill a sink or tub with enough hot water to completely submerge the jersey. If you’re using a washing machine, set it to the hottest water setting. Allow the jersey to soak for 10-15 minutes. This will help relax the fibers and make shrinking easier.
Drying the Jersey
This is the most important part of the whole process. If you don’t dry the jersey correctly, it will not shrink. Hang the jersey outside or in a well-ventilated area so that it can air dry. Do not put the jersey in the dryer, as this will damage it.
Lay the jersey out on a towel
Before you start washing the jersey, you need to make sure that it is the right size. An NFL jersey should fit snugly, but not be too tight. If it is too big, it will look sloppy and if it is too small, it will be uncomfortable to wear.
The best way to shrink a jersey is to wash it in hot water and then put it in the dryer on high heat. You can also add a towel or two in with the jersey to help speed up the process. If you are worried about the jersey shrinking too much, you can always put it in the dryer on low heat or hang it to dry.
Pat it dry with another towel
To help the jersey keep its shape, you’ll want to pat it dry with another towel instead of wringing it out.Lay the jersey out on a clean towel, and then pat it dry. You might need to do this a few times to get all the water out.
Hang the jersey up to air dry
The best way to shrink an NFL jersey is to hang it up to air dry. This will allow the jersey to shrink evenly and prevent any creases or wrinkles from forming. You should also avoid using a clothes dryer, as this can damage the garment.
