The Team’s History

The Team’s Roster

The team is led by senior captain Ryan Howard, who is entering his fourth year with the program. Howard is a talented hitter and fielder, and he has played a key role in the team’s success over the past few seasons.
Joining Howard in the starting lineup are junior outfielder/first baseman Jaxon Flagg, sophomore shortstop/third baseman Anthony Washington, and freshman second baseman/pitcher Jordan Brown. The pitching staff is anchored by junior right-hander Jamal Smith, who has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the conference over the past two seasons.Smith is joined by a talented group of young pitchers that includes freshman left-hander Jake Barth, sophomore right-hander Kyle Gibson, and freshman right-hander Tyler Johnson

The Team’s Schedule
Heading into the 2019 season, the Union baseball team had big shoes to fill. The team graduated 12 seniors, including All-American and Conference Pitcher of the Year Drew Stoehr. Despite the loss of Key Players from the previous season, Head Coach Matt Senffner expressed excitement and confidence in his team heading into the new season.
“We have a lot of young guys who are eager to step up and fill those shoes,” said Senffner. “Our goal is always to compete for a conference championship and make it to the NCAA tournament and I think we have the potential to do that this year.”
The team got off to a strong start, winning their first 10 games of the season. They continued to play well throughout the year, finishing with a 27-7 record overall and a 20-4 record in conference play The team’s success led them to their first appearance in the Conference Championship game since 2016, where they ultimately fell to St. Thomas 3-1.
Despite coming up just short of their ultimate goal, the Union baseball team had a successful 2019 season and is poised for continued success in 2020.
The Team’s Record

The conference includes Historically Black Colleges and universities (HBCUs) from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina Howard is currently in 2nd place in the MEAC behind Florida A&M.

The Team’s Postseason History
Howard Baseball is on the Rise. The team finished the 2017 season with a 28-22 record and their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The team’s postseason history dates back to their days as a Division II program, when they made four consecutive trips to the Division II College World Series from 1968 to 1971. In 1974, Howard made the jump to Division I and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic conference tournament in their first year of eligibility. The team has since appeared in the MEAC tournament ten times, but has not been back to the College World Series
