We are very proud of Alex and all that he has accomplished this week. We know that he will continue to be a great asset to our team and we look forward to seeing his continued success in the future.

Hitting

Iron Horse Baseball is pleased to announce its Hitting Player of the Week for the week of April 9-15. The award goes to senior second baseman Ryan Adams.

Adams had a monster week at the plate, batting .583 (7-for-12) with two home runs four RBI and seven runs scored He also walked four times and was hit by a pitch twice, reaching base in 13 of his 18 plate appearances.

On the season, Adams is now batting .400/.563/.767 with four home runs 19 RBI and 28 runs scored. He leads the team in all three slash-line categories, as well as runs scored. He is also second on the team in walks (19) and third in stolen bases (6).

Pitching

Pitching is a critical aspect of baseball, and the Iron Horse baseball team is lucky to have some great pitching talent this season. This week, we’re highlighting junior pitcher Jake Smith as our player of the week.

Jake had an outstanding week on the mound, pitching seven innings of shutout baseball against our conference rivals, the Blue Jays He gave up just four hits and struck out nine batters in the game, helping our team to a 5-0 victory.

This was just one great performance in what has been a strong season for Jake. He currently has a 3.86 ERA and has struck out 54 batters in 55 innings pitched We’re looking forward to seeing more great things from Jake as we head into the final stretch of the season!

Fielding

Fielding is a defensive measure of a player’s ability to field batted balls. It is one of the three elements of baseball, along with batting and Base running A player’s defensive contribution is quantified by his Fielding percentage which is calculated by the formula (1 – (hits – errors) / total chances).

Base Running

There are a few key things to remember when you are rounding the bases. First, touch home plate with your foot to score a run. You must touch each base in order, and you can only advance to the next base when the player ahead of you has touched the base first. If there is a play at the plate, or if the ball is hit to the outfield, you must run to first base and then continue around the bases as fast as you can. Remember, safety is always first! If you are unsure whether or not you will be safe at a base, slide feet first into the base.

Mental Game

The importance of the Mental Game in baseball can never be understated. It’s often the difference between winning and losing. That’s why we’re proud to announce our Iron Horse baseball player of the Week, who has shown a dedication to honing his Mental Game

This week’s player is third baseman Josh Donaldson, who has been putting in extra work with a sports psychologist to help him stay focused and mentally sharp during games. It’s paid off, as Donaldson has been one of the best players in baseball over the past month.

During that span, he’s hitting .370/.457/.780 with seven Home Runs and 23 RBIs. He’s been especially hot lately, hitting .444/.519/1.000 with three home runs and 11 RBIs over his last seven games.

Donaldson credits his work with the psychologist for helping him stay calm and relaxed during games, which has allowed him to play at an MVP level. We’re excited to see what he can do for the rest of the season!

Health

Many people assume that being a Professional Athlete means you are automatically in good health. However, this is not always the case. In fact, many professional athletes struggle with their health due to the demands of their careers.

Iron Horse baseball player of the week is a perfect example of someone who is not only a great athlete, but also takes care of his health. He is currently batting .357 with four home runs and 15 RBIs. He is also slugging .786 and has an on-base percentage of .463.

But what many people don’t know about him is that he is also a cancer survivor. In 2006, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and given a 50/50 chance of survival. But through treatment and hard work he beat the odds and has been cancer free for nine years.

This just goes to show that you don’t have to be perfect to be healthy. You just have to be dedicated to taking care of yourself and your body. So if you’re looking for inspiration to get healthy, look no further than the Iron Horse baseball player of the week.
