The Mahtomedi varsity Hockey Team is a squad on the rise. After years of finishing near the bottom of the conference, the Zephyrs have worked their way up to become one of the top teams in the state.

This season, Mahtomedi will be looking to build on their success from last year. The Zephyrs finished with a record of 22-5-1, narrowly missing out on a conference title They also made it to the State Tournament for the first time in several years, ultimately falling to eventual champion GRand Rapids in the semifinals.

With a core group of players returning, Mahtomedi will be looking to take that next step and win a state championship Led by senior captain Jake Hobbs, the Zephyrs have the talent and experience to make a deep run in the tournament. If they can stay healthy and avoid any major upsets, this could be the year that Mahtomedi brings home a state title.

Mahtomedi hockey has a long and rich history. The team was founded in 1967 and has been a staple in the Minnesota hockey community ever since. The team has seen its fair share of success, winning multiple State Championships and producing a number of Division I and NHL players

In recent years Mahtomedi has undergone a bit of a renaissance. The team has been revitalized under the leadership of new head coachTodd Mattingly, who has led the team to new heights. In the past few years, Mahtomedi has become one of the top teams in Minnesota, winning back-to-back state championships in 2017 and 2018.

The future is bright for Mahtomedi hockey. With a talented group of young players and a proven Head Coach the team is poised to continue its success for years to come.

This season, the Mahtomedi High School Varsity Hockey Team will be looking to continue their upward trend and build upon last year’s successful season The team is composed of experienced upperclassmen and talented young players that have been working hard in the off-season to prepare for the upcoming campaign. The players are dressing in the locker room getting their equipment on and making sure their skates are sharpened. They know that they have a tough game ahead of them, but they’re confident that they can get the win.

As the team takes the ice, the stands are filled with fans who are there to support their hometown heroes. The atmosphere is electric as the game gets underway.

Mahtomedi Hockey: A Team on the Rise- Media

Media members and fans of high school hockey in the state of Minnesota are well aware of the Mahtomedi Zephyrs. The Zephyrs have been one of the top programs in the state over the past few years, winning back-to-back State Championships in 2016 and 2017. The team also made it to the state tournament in 2018, but came up just short, losing in the semifinals.

This year, the team is once again off to a hot start, as they are currently ranked No. 2 in the state. With a record of 18-3-1, the Zephyrs have only lost three games all season. They have also been very impressive against some of the best teams in the state, as they have ten teams like Duluth East Edina, and Maple Grove

The Zephyrs are led by a few Key Players such as senior captain Jack Hughes. Hughes is one of the top prospects in all of hockey, as he is currently ranked No. 1 overall in North America for the 2019 NHL Draft by NHL Central Scouting. He is an incredible playmaker and has already committed to play college hockey at the University of Michigan next season.

Other Top Players on the team include junior goaltender Garrett Mackay, who has been stellar all season long between the pipes for Mahtomedi. He has posted a save percentage of .941 and a goals against average of 1.67 while leading the team to 18 wins.

The Zephyrs also have a very strong defense that has helped them to be successful all season long. Senior defenseman Ian Scheid is one of the best defenseman in all of high school hockey and has been a leader on and off the ice for Mahtomedi throughout his career.

With a strong core group of players and a lot of talent up and down their lineup, Mahtomedi looks like they could be poised for another deep run in the state tournament this year. Be sure to follow their journey as they try to bring home another state championship!
