Mankato Hockey Roster: Meet the Team

The Mankato Hockey Team is made up of some of the most talented young players in the country. Get to know the team with this roster breakdown.

Forwards

The Mankato Hockey Team has 12 forwards on their roster this season. 7 of these forwards are returners from last year, and 5 are new to the team.

F Forwards
Erik Baskin, Junior – Baskin is a junior who is one of the 5 new forwards on the team this season. He is from Chicago, Illinois and is 6’0″, 185 pounds.

Owen Bjorkstrand, Freshman – Bjorkstrand is a freshman from Anchorage, Alaska. He is 6’1″, 175 pounds.

Cooper Marchand, Sophomore -Marchand is a sophomore from Mankato, Minnesota. He is one of the seven returners from last year’s team. Marchand is 5’10”, 160 pounds.

Defensemen

The Mankato Hockey team has eight defensemen on its roster this season. This group of players is responsible for stopping the opposing team from scoring and protecting the goalie.

Head coach Dan located his defensemen in the following order from left to right: Luke, Owen, Jack, Nate, Brody, Alec, Peyton and Carson.

The starting lineup will likely be Luke, Owen, Jack and Nate. These four have played together for most of the season and have developed good chemistry. They are also the team’s top four defensemen in terms of skill.

Brody, Alec, Peyton and Carson will serve as the team’s backup defensemen. They will see action in games when one of the starters needs a break or if there is an injury.

Goaltenders

In Ice Hockey the goaltender is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team’s net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender usually plays in or near the area in front of the net called the goal crease Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. There are typically two goaltenders per team: a starting goaltender who plays most of the game, and a backup goaltender who enters when needed.

On Mankato’s roster, we have three goaltenders:

-Wilcox, Matty #29
-Dubnyk, Devan #40
-Stalock, Alex #32

Wilcox is a 25 year old from South St Paul, Minnesota. He was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2014 and is in his first season with Mankato. Dubnyk is a 34 year old from Regina, Saskatchewan. He was drafted by Edmonton in 2004 and is in his 12th season overall and 2nd with Mankato. Stalock is a 30 year old from St Paul, Minnesota. He was undrafted but signed as a free agent by San Jose in 2010 and is in his 8th season overall and 2nd with Mankato.

Coaching Staff

The Coaching Staff for the 2019-2020 Mankato hockey team is made up of Head Coach Mark Hardy, and assistant coaches Ryan Hardy and Nick Stoner.

Management

The Mankato hockey team is led by a strong management team. head coach Mike Yeo is in his sixth season with the team, and associate Head Coach John Anderson is in his ninth. The two have a wealth of experience and knowledge about the game of hockey, and they work well together to lead the team to success.

General manager Chuck Fletcher is in his eighth season with the team, and he has put together a roster that is competitive and has a chance to win every night. Fletcher is always looking to improve the team, and he has made some big moves in recent years to try to make the Mankato Hockey franchise a contender for the Stanley Cup

Team History

The Mankato Hockey Team has a long and celebrated history. The team was founded in 1955 and has been a member of the North American Hockey League since the league’s inception in 1972. The team has won three Division Championships and one conference championship

Notable Players

The Mankato Hockey Team is composed of talented players from all over the world. Notable players on the team include:

– Forward Joe Pavelski, who hails from Plover, Wisconsin. A Stanley Cup winner with the Chicago Blackhawks Pavelski is known for his offensive skills.
– Defenseman Ryan Suter, who comes from Madison, Wisconsin. Suter is a two-time Olympian and a member of the 2014 US Men’s Olympic Hockey Team
– Goaltender Devan Dubnyk, who is originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Dubnyk has played for several NHL Teams including the Minnesota Wild

Rivalries

Rivalries are a big part of hockey, and the Mankato Hockey Team has several. One of their biggest rivals is the Duluth Dragons. The two teams have been competing against each other for years, and the games are always heated. Another one of their rivals is the Minneapolis Pilots. The two teams are often vying for first place in their conference, and the games between them are always close.
