Luigi

Luigi is Mario’s younger, taller fraternal twin brother and is a major protagonist of the Mario franchise, being second only to Mario. Throughout his life, he has lived in Mario’s shadow, developing both cowardly and heroic tendencies. Despite this, Luigi has helped and fought alongside his brother on many occasions. Initially Luigi was seen as largely expendable and played the role of “Damsel in distress”, often kidnapped and needing to be rescued; however as the franchise grew, his character became more distinguished. He was created by Nintendo to serve as “the other Mushroom Kingdom hero”. Early appearances portray him as a simple palette swap of Mario with a green hat and shirt. Luigi has since developed into a distinct character; games often pair the two up as player options or supporting each other during gameplay.

Toad

Toad is a playable character in all of the Mario baseball games He is a small, lightweight character with very little power, but he makes up for it with his speed and agility. Toad is also one of the few characters who can run faster than he can throw the ball.
