Merrimack college hockey is a team on the rise. The Warriors have been one of the top teams in Hockey East over the last few years, and they show no signs of slowing down.
The Warriors are led by Head Coach Mark Dennehy, who has been at the helm since 2006. Under Dennehy’s guidance, Merrimack has made 5 NCAA tournament appearances, won 3 Hockey East regular season titles, and 1 Hockey East Tournament championship.

The Team’s History
The Merrimack Hockey Team is a relatively new team, having only been founded in 1972. However, in the short time that the team has been around, it has made a name for itself as a rising force in the world of college hockey
The team got its start when a group of students at Merrimack College decided to form a Hockey Team With no varsity program at the school, the team had to start from scratch. They managed to find enough players and equipment to play their first game against another college club team. Although they lost that game, the team was hooked and decided to continue playing.
In just a few years, the Merrimack Hockey team had made great strides. They were able to join a league and began playing other college teams on a regular basis. Their hard work paid off when they won their first League Championship in 1978.
Since then, the Merrimack hockey team has gone from strength to strength. They have won multiple league championships and have even made it to the NCAA Division I Frozen Four tournament twice (in 1988 and 1994). In recent years they have become one of the top-ranked teams in college hockey and are regularly considered contenders for the National Championship title

The Team’s Roster
The Merrimack roster is loaded with young, up-and-coming talent. The team’s core group of forwards is led by sophomore Neil Shea, who had a breakout rookie season last year. Along with Shea, the team’s top forwards include juniors Chris Dipietro and Tyler Durdon, as well as freshman phenom Nolan Vesey.
The team’s defense is anchored by junior captain Brett Sierra, who is coming off a strong season in which he was named to the Hockey East All-Conference Second Team. Along with Sierra, the team’s defense features a mix of experience and youth, with junior Matt Thomas and sophomore Simon Olsson leading the way.
Between the pipes, the team will look to junior Craig Pantano to build on his strong sophomore campaign. Pantano finished last season with a .923 save percentage and was named to the Hockey East All-Conference Second Team.
