Introduction
It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about High School baseball and the class of 2022. This is an exciting time for baseball fans as we start to see which players will be the stars of tomorrow.
The class of 2022 is loaded with talent, and it’s shaping up to be one of the best classes we’ve seen in a long time. There are a lot of players who have the potential to be great, and it’s going to be fun to watch them develop over the next few years.
Here are some of the players who we think have the potential to be star players in the class of 2022:
· Trey Horton, RHP, Huntington high school Horton is a big right-hander with a lot of potential. He already has a strong arm, and he’s only going to get better as he gets older. Horton has the potential to be a top-of-the-rotation starter, and he could be one of the best pitchers in the state.
· Jacob Reese, C, George Washington high school Reese is a big catcher with a lot of power. He already has some college offers, and it’s easy to see why. Reese has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order hitter, and he’s also a good defender behind the plate.
· Garrett McDonald, OF, Parkersburg South high school McDonald is a toolsy outfielder with a lot of upside. He’s already gotten some interest from colleges, and it’s easy to see why. McDonald has all the tools necessary to be a successful hitter at the next level, and he has the potential to be a good Defensive Player as well.
· Brayden Henson, RHP/IF, Ripley High School Henson is a two-way player with a lot of upside. He has a strong arm on the mound, and he also hits for power at the plate. Henson has the potential to be an impact player on both sides of the ball, and he should be one of the best players in West Virginia next season.
The Class of 2022
The class of 2022 is one of the most talented classes in recent memory. These young men have worked hard to hone their skills and it shows. Here are some of the Top Players in the class:
pitcher – Drew Stromberger from Hurricane high school He’s 6’4” and 195 pounds with a fastball that hits 95 mph on the Radar Gun Stromberger has already committed to play baseball at West Virginia University.
Catcher – Luke Zimmerman from Lewis County High School He’s a big kid at 6’3” and 220 pounds, and he can crush the ball. Zimmerman has already committed to play baseball at Marshall University
First baseman – Cole Hice from Parkersburg South high school He’s 6’1” and 190 pounds with power that belies his size. Hice has already committed to play baseball at Virginia Tech
Outfielder – Peyton Puryear from Parkersburg high school He’s a five-tool player who can do it all on the field. Puryear has yet to commit to a college, but he has offers from several Division I schools.

The Metronews Wv High School baseball team is a group of high school students who play baseball under the Metronews banner.
The Season Ahead
As we enter the 2021 baseball season let’s take a moment to look back at the successful 2020 campaign and reflect on what this year’s team will look like.
The team is made up of seniors, mostly from the Charleston area. The class of 2022 will be looked upon to lead the team in their final year of High School ball. Some notable returners from last year include:

-Second baseman Sami Haddad
-Third baseman Ryan McCormick
The Players
The class of 2022 boasts some of the most talented players in the state. These young men have the potential to make an impact at the collegiate and professional levels. Here is a look at some of the top players in the class:
Jadan White (Hurricane): White is a five-tool player who has been on the radar of Major League scouts since his freshman year. He is a polished hitter with plus power, and he also has the ability to play all three field positions White has committed to Play Baseball at Vanderbilt University
Brady Ervin (South Charleston): Ervin is a big, physical pitcher who can reach 95 MPH with his fastball. He also has a sharp Breaking Ball that has been clocked as high as 85 MPH. Ervin has committed to play baseball at West Virginia University.
Will Grier (Nitro): Grier is one of the top hitters in the state, and he also has experience playing both shortstop and third base. He has committed to Play Baseball at Marshall University.
These are just a few of the top players in the class of 2022. With so much talent, it’s sure to be an exciting season of High school baseball in West Virginia!
The Coaches
The Coaches –
Most baseball teams have a staff of three or more coaches. They work with the players on their skills and strategy, and also help to motivate them and keep them focused during the game. In addition, they often have to manage the egos of players and parents alike. Here are some of the coaches who have been working with the Class of 2022:
Coach Steve Smith – Coach Smith has been working with the team for two years. He is a former professional player himself, and he has a lot of experience working with young athletes He is known for his calm demeanor and his ability to get the best out of his players.
Coach Mark Johnson – Coach Johnson is in his first year with the team. He is a former college player and coach, and he brings a lot of enthusiasm to his work with the boys. He is known for his ability to connect with his players and for his positive attitude
Coach DanScan – Coach Scan is in his third year with the team. He played professionally for many years, and he has a wealth of knowledge about the game. He is known for being able to relate to his players and for his passion for teaching them the game.
The Fans
The fans are the most important part of any High School baseball game They provide support and encouragement for the players and contribute to the atmosphere of the game. Metronews Wv High School Baseball would like to thank all of the fans who have supported our team throughout the years. The Schedule
The regular season for most high school baseball teams in West Virginia starts on Monday, March 27. Here’s a look at the schedule for the state’s 22 teams in the Class of 2022, as provided by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission:

The Playoffs
The playoffs are finally here and it’s time to see who the best team in the state is. The Class of 2022 is full of talented players who will be looking to make a name for themselves in the postseason.
The first round of the playoffs will feature some great matchups, including:
In the west, #1 seed Huntington will take on #8 seed South Charleston in a battle of two of the top teams in the state. Huntington is led by senior pitcher Robbie Humphreys, who has been one of the best pitchers in the state all season. South Charleston is no stranger to success either, as they won the state championship last year. This should be a great game between two evenly matched teams.
In the east, #1 seed Martinsburg will take on #8 seed Musselman in a rematch of last year’s state championship game. Martinsburg is led by senior pitcher Jace Rutledge, who has been dominating opponents all season long Musselman will be looking to avenge their loss from last year and prove that they are still one of the top teams in the state. This should be a great game that goes down to the wire.

The future of West Virginia high school baseball looks bright, as the Class of 2022 features a number of talented young players Here’s a look at some of the top prospects in the state:
Brandon Blakely, P, Parkersburg South: A left-handed pitcher with a mid-90s fastball, Blakely has already garnered interest from a number of Division I programs. He’s expected to be one of the top pitching prospects in the state.
Dylan Suttle, OF, Martinsburg: Suttle is a five-tool player who projects as a potential Division I prospect. He’s got good speed and a strong arm, and he’s been Hitting the ball well this spring.
Aaron Tucker, IF, Huntington: Tucker is a smooth-fielding infielder with good range and a strong arm. At the plate, he has a quick bat and good power potential. He should be one of the top prospects in the state.
