For over fifty years, Mifflin has fielded some of the best teams in the state, winning multiple championships and producing numerous Major League Baseball players. Today, Mifflin baseball is as strong as ever, with a new generation of players carrying on the tradition of excellence.

The History of Mifflin Baseball

Mifflin baseball is a tradition that dates back to the late 1800s. The sport was first introduced to the school by physical education teacher George Bechtel. Bechtel was a former semi-professional player and he quickly built a reputation as one of the best coaches in the city. His teams were known for their aggressive play and their execute fundamentals.

The program first gained city-wide attention in the early 1900s when Mifflin won three consecutive city championships. The team was led by star pitcher Walter Johnson, who went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Washington Senators Johnson’s success helped put Mifflin baseball on the map, and the program has been one of the best in the city ever since.
