The last time the Minnesota Golden Gophers baseball team made it to the NCAA tournament disco was all the rage and Star Wars hit theaters for the first time.

Now, after a 39-year drought, the Golden Gophers are heading back to the big dance. The team received an at-large bid to the 64-team tournament and will face off against Louisville in the first round.

This is a huge achievement for a program that has been rebuilding since Head Coach John Anderson took over in 2002. Anderson has led the team to 15 straight winning seasons, but this is by far the biggest accomplishment of his tenure.

The Golden Gophers have a long way to go if they want to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament but just making it is a huge step in the right direction.

The Gophers finished the regular season with a record of 32-20, and earned the #3 seed in the Minneapolis Regional.
