The short answer to the headline is that the Cincinnati Reds have the most stolen bases in the Mountain West Conference with 191. The Colorado Rockies are in second place with 173 and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in third place with 153. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when looking at these numbers.
First, the Rockies have played five fewer games than the Reds, so their per-game average is slightly higher. Second, the Diamondbacks have played eight fewer games than the Reds, so their per-game average is much higher. In fact, if you look at stolen bases per game, the Diamondbacks are actually in first place with an average of 1.86 thefts per game, followed by the Rockies (1.69) and then the Reds (1.51).
Of course, stolen bases is just one statistical category and there are many others that can be used to judge a team’s performance. However, it’s worth noting that the teams with the most stolen bases often end up being among the best teams in their league or conference.
