Zion Basketball – A Mount Zion Tradition
Since the early 1900s, basketball has been an important part of Mount Zion culture. The game is not only a tradition at Mount Zion, but it is also a way for the community to come together and bond.
Basketball was first introduced to Mount Zion by the YMCA in the early 1900s. At that time, the game was played on an outdoor court located on what is now Main Street. In later years, a covered court was built next to the schoolhouse so that games could be played year-round.
Mount Zion has always been home to very competitive basketball teams The first Mount Zion team to gain notoriety was the 1916-17 squad, which went undefeated and won the county championship. In the years since, Mount Zion teams have won numerous conference, district, and state titles.
The tradition of Mount Zion basketball continues today with both boys’ and girls’ teams representing the school in competition. The teams play their home games in the Mount Zion gymnasium, which is located just off Main Street.

The Zion Basketball Program
Zion Basketball is a winter sport played by boys in grades 3-12. The Zion Basketball Program is a competitive youth Basketball Program that has teams at the 3rd Grade through 8th Grade level. The goal of the Zion Basketball Program is to enable all youngsters to participate in an organized, structured and fun basketball program while learning the value of teamwork, developing strong individual skills and building character.
The Zion Basketball Team
The Zion basketball team is a long-standing tradition at Mount Zion High School The team has been very successful over the years, winning several conference championships and state titles. The team is coached by Joe Smith who has been with the team for many years. Coach Smith is a former player himself, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. The Zion Basketball team is one of the most successful programs in the state of Illinois, and they are always a force to be reckoned with in the postseason.
The Zion Basketball League
Basketball is a vital part of Mount Zion culture. The Zion Basketball League was founded in the early 1990s as a way to promote healthy competition and sportsmanship among the members of the community.
The league is made up of teams from all over Mount Zion, including the Zion House of Prayer, Mount Zion Baptist Church, and the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. Each team consists of players of all ages, from young children to adults.
The Zion Basketball league provides an opportunity for members of the community to come together and compete in a friendly atmosphere. It also promotes Physical activity andhealthy living among its participants.
The Zion Basketball Tournament
The Zion Basketball Tournament is a Mount Zion tradition that takes place every year. This tournament is open to all teams in the area, and it is a great way to see some of the best basketball talent in the state. The Zion Basketball Tournament is a great way to spend a weekend, and it is a great way to support Mount Zion athletics.
The Zion Basketball Camp
The Zion Basketball Camp is a Mount Zion tradition that has been providing basketball instruction for Boys and Girls in the fifth through eighth grades since 2001. The camp is run by Mount Zion high school basketball coach Al Fontenot and his staff. Coach Fontenot has been the head basketball coach at Mount Zion high school since 1998. In that time, he has led the team to eight conference championships and four State Tournament appearances.
The Basketball Camp is held each summer in the month of June. It is a five-day camp that runs from Monday through Friday. The camp starts each day at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Each day, the campers will participate in two hours of skills development and two hours of games. The skills development portion of the camp will focus onIndividual skills, team concepts, and sportsmanship. The game portion of the camp will be structured so that each camper will get plenty of playing time
The Zion Basketball Camp is open to any boy or girl in the fifth through eighth grade who wants to improve his or her basketball skills The cost of the camp is $100 per camper, which includes a t-shirt and a basketball.
The Zion Basketball Clinic
The Zion basketball clinic was started in 2001 by Coach Jason Harris. The clinic is held every Saturday from 9am-12pm at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. The clinic is free and open to all boys and girls ages 5-17.
The clinic teaches the fundamentals of basketball through drills and scrimmages. Coach Harris and his staff stress the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect for others. The clinics also provide an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy some friendly competition.
Each season, the clinic culminates with a tournament where the participants put their skills to the test. The tournament is open to all participants, regardless of skill level.Everyone is guaranteed to play at least two games.
The Zion Basketball Clinic is more than just a place to learn how to play basketball it’s a place where young people can learn valuable LIFE LESSONS that will help them succeed on and off the court.
The Zion Basketball Academy
The Zion Basketball Academy is a Mount Zion tradition that has been providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge of the game for over 20 years. The Academy is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8 and offers instruction in the fundamental skills of basketball. The curriculum also includes character development, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The Academy provides an enjoyable and challenging experience for all participants.
The Zion Basketball League
The Zion Basketball League is a Mount Zion tradition that dates back to the early 1900s. The league was originally established as a way for local Jewish businesses to compete against each other. Over the years, the league has evolved and now includes teams from all over the city.
The Zion basketball league is a competitive Basketball League that is open to all players aged 18 and over. The league has two divisions, the A Division and the B Division. The A Division is considered the more competitive of the two, while the B Division is more relaxed.
Both divisions play an equal number of games during the regular season which runs from October to March. The top teams from each division advance to the playoffs, which are held in April. The Zion Basketball League Championship game is typically held on the first Sunday in May.
