“The game has definitely changed in regards to player safety. We are always looking out for the well-being of the players and trying to keep them as safe as possible,” said Brown.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I do. I get to travel all over the world and see some amazing places while working at something I love. It really is a dream come true,” said Brown.

How does one become an NBA Ref?

After successfully completing a regional camp, officials are then evaluated by the NBA Referee Development staff during the NBA Summer League and Pre-Season. If an official is deemed to have potential, they are then invited to attend the NBA Officiating Camp where they undergo further training and evaluation.

Once an official has completed the camp, they are placed on the NBA’s rookie list. Rookie officials will spend one season working in the NBA G League where they will be closely monitored and evaluated by the NBA referee Development staff.

After successfully completing their rookie season, officials are then eligible to be promoted to full-Ime Nba officials.
