In the early 1990s, a group of New Jersey High School Basketball Coaches got together with the goal of creating a statewide tournament for the best teams in the state. The result was the NJ Scholars Basketball Tournament which has been held every year since 1994.

It all started in the year 2006 when a group of young, talented and ambitious basketball players decided to form a club that would eventually become one of the best in the state. The name of the club was Nj Scholars Basketball. The aim of the club was to provide young athletes with an opportunity to pursue their academic and Basketball Dreams at the same time.

The club started with just six members but soon grew in numbers. By the year 2009, it already had 30 members. In its first year, the club managed to win two tournaments. In the following years, it kept on winning and became one of the most successful basketball clubs in New Jersey.

To date, Nj Scholars Basketball has won numerous championships and tournaments. It has also produced several Division 1 college basketball players. The club is currently headed by Coach Mike Rice Jr who is a renowned figure in New Jersey college basketball
