Contents
The top 5 recruits in this year’s class that will make a huge impact on the court and lead their teams to glory.
5-star center Emoni Bates
Emoni Bates is a 5-star center from Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Bates is the top-ranked player in the Class of 2022, according to ESPN. He has verbally committed to play college basketball for Michigan State University
At 6-foot-9 and just 200 pounds, Bates has a slender frame that will need to be filled out in order to compete at the Division I level. Though he is not an elite athlete, Bates is a very skilled player with a High Basketball IQ. He has a great shooting touch, both from long range and around the basket. He also has good Court Vision and is an excellent passer for a big man.
Bates will need to add some muscle to his frame in order to be able to bang down low with Big Ten centers, but he has all the tools to develop into an elite player at the collegiate level. Bates should make an immediate impact for the Spartans when he arrives on campus next year.
5-star point guard Kennedy Chandler
5-star point guard Kennedy Chandler is one of the top recruits in the Class of 2021. The 6-foot-1 prospect from Bell buckle, Tennessee is rated as the No. 2 point guard and the No. 11 player in the ESPN 100.
Chandler has good size and length for a point guard and he’s an elite level athlete with good speed and quickness. He’s a gifted playmaker with the ability to create for himself and others, and he has deep range on his jump shot
Chandler is a tough, competitive player who has the potential to be a very good defender at the next level. He’s also a high-character young man who comes from a great family.
I had a chance to see Chandler play in person last summer, and I came away very impressed with his overall game. I think he has all the tools to be a very successful player at the college level and beyond.
5-star small forward Jabari Smith
Jabari Smith is a 6’8” small forward from Atlanta, GA that currently attends Wheeler high school He is rated as a 5-star recruit, the #4 player in the country, and the #1 small forward in the 2022 class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings Smith has offers from Duke, Kentucky, UNC, and many more top programs He has not yet announced his college decision.
Smith is a lengthy and smooth athlete with excellent scoring instincts. He is most comfortable attacking off the dribble where he can use his size and length to finish over defenders at the rim. Smith also has a nice mid-range game and is improving as a three-point shooter. He will need to continue to work on his outside shot and ball-handling in order to reach his full potential but he has all of the tools to be an elite scorer at the next level.
In addition to his scoring ability, Smith is also a very good rebounder for his position. He uses his length well on both ends of the court and has shown flashes of being a very good defender. If he can continue to improve his effort level on defense, he has all of the tools to be an elite two-way player at the small forward position
Overall, Jabari Smith is an extremely talented basketball player with a very high ceiling. He has all of the tools to be an impact player on both ends of the court at the college level and should be able to make an immediate impact for whichever program he decides to play for next season.
5-star Power Forward Greg Brown
The top-ranked power forward in the nation, Greg Brown has the size, strength, and athleticism to make an immediate impact at the college level. A native of Austin, Texas, Brown has deep roots in the Longhorn State and is a legacy recruit for the University of Texas.
While Brown is far from a finished product on the offensive end of the floor, his potential as a rim-protector and rebounder is off the charts. Brown blocked 2.6 shots per game as a senior at Vandegrift high school and was named the District 25-6A Defensive Player of the Year.
At 6’9” and 225 pounds, Brown has good size for a power forward but will need to add weight and strength in order to bang with some of the bigger frontcourt players in the Big 12 Conference. With that being said, Greg Brown is a program-changing recruit for Head Coach Shaka Smart and Texas Longhorns fans should be very excited about his potential.
5-star shooting guard Josh Christopher
Josh Christopher is a five-star shooting guard from Mayfair high school in Los Angeles California. Christopher is considered one of the best Shooting Guards in the 2020 recruiting class He is ranked No. 11 in the ESPN 100 and is rated a 96 out of 100 by 247Sports Composite.
Christopher has the ability to score from anywhere on the court and has a high motor. He will be able to contribute right away for whichever team he decides to play for.
