Born in Dover, New Hampshire, Casey grew up in Maryland and attended the University of Richmond, where he played college baseball for the Richmond Spiders The Indians selected Casey in the first round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Indians in 1997 and became a regular player during the 1999 season. After playing five seasons with Cleveland, he was traded to the Reds in 2002. Casey spent three seasons with Cincinnati before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates following the 2005 season. After one season with Pittsburgh, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers prior to the 2007 season. He was traded to his fifth MLB team, the Red Sox during the 2008 season and became Boston’s primary first baseman over parts of six seasons. Casey announced his retirement from Professional Baseball on December 21st, 2014 following an illustrious career spanning 18 seasons.
