The Lions have been competing at the Division I level since 1961 and have made eleven trips to the NCAA Tournament including five regional appearances. The Lions have also had 31 players drafted by Major League Baseball teams, including four in the first round.

Southeastern Louisiana’s most successful stretch came in the early 2000s under Head Coach Jay Artigues. The Lions won three consecutive Southland Conference championships from 2001 to 2003 and made back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2003. In 2002, the Lions won a school-record 45 games and advanced to the NCAA regional finals before losing to eventual national runner-up Texas.

Since joining the Southland Conference the Lions have had some of the best players in the league on their rosters. Current Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year in 2014, while pitcher Zachary Hess was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year in 2017.
